Nintendo says that it has no plans for a new Switch model in 2020

Following last year's release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, there were rumors that the Big N was planning another, beefier version of its console-handheld hybrid, a so-called Nintendo Switch Pro, in 2020. This was also seen as a plausible way for the company to counter the PS5 and Xbox Series X, which are also planned for a 2020 release. Nintendo however squashed those rumors in its 'Nine Months Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2020'.

Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, wrote the following in this briefing:

Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.

While we might not see a new version of the Switch this year, special editions like the recently-announced Animal Crossing model will still be released. Do you still think that we'll get to see this rumored "Pro" version beyond 2020?

About time already.
Nintendo really needs a beefier switch is they want to compete with Sony's upcoming Ps5
Otherwise it'll be game over.
Nintendo was never about having the best specs or beefie graphics... Always about the quality of games. Heck they could re-release the gamecube with no changes other than hdmi maybe and I'd still buy it

Thats what they said when they were still trying to move there wiiu's before announcing the switch.
But as we all kno the switch is selling and the wii u was collapsing - why the heck would they announce a new console this year unless ther releasing it next year and tht ain't happening

Don't really care. But I think they better show off some new games soon. Not som shitty pokemon, super smash character direct. I want something new. Like super Mario 3d world 2, hell a port of the first one. Super Mario oddeesy 2, bayonetta 3. At least something.

They lied to us about the Switch Lite, so I suspect they're lying to us about the Switch Pro too. They also denied a Link's Awakening remake being in the works, and that ALSO turned out to be a lie. I don't trust Nintendo's word. That's like them saying Sakurai is done adding Fire Emblem characters to Super Fire Emblem Ultimate.

Metroid Prime 4 would be nice... And yeah, where the fuck is Bayonetta 3??? That development was started YEARS ago!

lol wat the switch is the only good portable gaming device on the market nearly everyone who buys a switch wants it for this. and as long as idiots are willing to pay for the shitty pokemon bank (and they will) they don't need to do a thing and still rake in the $

Thank god ! if they did it would be anti consumer and the switch that it is now would lasted less then 5 years wich is just not enough. Also keeping the lifespan short means you don't get a big upgrade a new generation each time. the shorter the lifespan the less new tech you get for making a new generation. Also the reason why we never see big jumps from Nintendo since they often release something after a meager 3-4 years always and that way the technology jump isn't big enough. We saw that with the gba to the DS. The gba only lasted 3 years before the DS came out. But ey, Nintendo eh, we tend to forget and forgive stuff like that. If Nintendo keeps it at a min of 5 years like Sony and Microsoft always do, the jump to next gen techwise will be a lot bigger compared to the small jumps we see now constantly from Nintendo. Nintendo did do it before tho and we saw massive leaps every generation like with the SNES, N64, Gamecube that all had much longer lifespans

The Switch Lite is the "2DS" of the Switch family while the Improved Battery version is the "New 3DS" version.

Nintendo hasn't gotten into the whole "Pro" models that SONY and Microsoft have. No need for Nintendo to.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Just wait after PS5 AND XBOX on winter holiday switch will pop surprise in march after 4 years
Nintendo isn't competing with SONY or Microsoft, but they have borrowed the online subscription model of Microsoft.

This is an official statement released for their investors, not some bullshit PR. It would be illegal to lie in this case, so we can be sure that Furukawa is telling the truth.

This is a bit far, the v2 Switch doesn't actually offer any additional power while the New 3DS certainly did. Sure the software support was limited but the hardware was definitely there. Same with the DSi.

Thank goodness for official announcements. This will put a huge dents into click-bait media.
Nintendo already released a revised Switch last year wouldn't make sense to have another this year for many reasons.

Did anyone actually expect a Switch Pro in 2020? It wouldn't make sense at this stage, when the Switch and Switch Lite are selling so well. If we see a Switch Pro, it will be towards the end of the Switch's life span, in order to sell more hardware and get more people into the Switch ecosystem once sales start drying up.

I'm totally fine without a revision. I love the Switch as is. They should start making systems that can take modular upgrades instead of making all new hardware. Too bad money is a thing.
