Nintendo says that it has no plans for a new Switch model in 2020

Following last year's release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, there were rumors that the Big N was planning another, beefier version of its console-handheld hybrid, a so-called Nintendo Switch Pro, in 2020. This was also seen as a plausible way for the company to counter the PS5 and Xbox Series X, which are also planned for a 2020 release. Nintendo however squashed those rumors in its 'Nine Months Financial Results Briefing for Fiscal Year Ending March 2020'.

Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, wrote the following in this briefing:

Regarding Nintendo Switch, we believe that it is important to continue to communicate the appeal of both Nintendo Switch systems and expand the installed base. Please note that we have no plans to launch a new Nintendo Switch model during 2020.

While we might not see a new version of the Switch this year, special editions like the recently-announced Animal Crossing model will still be released. Do you still think that we'll get to see this rumored "Pro" version beyond 2020?

Not going to happen. Otherwise it won't be Nintendo. It's all about Mario, Zelda and few more thirty years old stuff with childish characters. I wish Sony came up with a hybrid console instead of N, because I really like the concept and they would put much more powerful hardware in it.

SONY HAS dipped there feet into portable and been burned way to many times now there last try was the psp go and after pspvita and they where total flops i dont see any portable console coming out from them for a good 50 years. microsoft watched them flop and has stayed away from portables leaving only nintendo to rule in that market do to there player base being more children driven and thats the main reason you dont see many AAA tittle move to nintendo hardware but instead a ton of the first party content being rehashed and ported over. Nintendo doesnt need to compete with them cause they already have there market cornered and monopolized.

We dont need more hw. We need good games. We have all the power on our device and 720p is enough. If game streaming become a solid patform a ps3 or smartphone or smart tv can push the best graphic game

It's not like it matters if it stops selling when PS5/XBOX release. Switch will have already sold 60m copies by then.

True but it doesn't mean anything because it is just a number with NO brand new AAA games at all and due that PS5/XBOX release will be the best systems ever due to great brand new AAA games. Nintendo Switch sold 60m copies meaning that many people bought it because of jailbreak. If not for jailbreak, then it wont be best sell yet.

If PS4 jailbreak reach 7.00 FW or so then PS4 will surely outsold Switch easily due that there are lots of AAA games that aren't jailbreak on 5.05 just yet.

"We have no plans to release a new Switch model, because we prefer to ad-lib that kind of stuff."

or "we do have plans to release a new switch model, but we not saying anything, so people will still buy OG switch, even if 2 or 3 moths later a new model show up, and those same people will buy the new model anyways...

About time already.
Nintendo really needs a beefier switch is they want to compete with Sony's upcoming Ps5
Otherwise it'll be game over.
Nah they don't actually. Switch is already doing so really well.
You think the PS5 will come with a massive library? Nah. will take atleast a year to take off.
So nintendo will have 2 years for a more powerful switch is my prediction.

What do you meaning "following"? Quite the opposite was true. The unreliable Wall Street Journal + a bunch of unreliable YouTubers ran wild with speculation of a Switch Pro (a name they made up and not one that Nintendo ever said) and instead Nintendo gave us the Lite.

Then a month or so ago the usual suspects once again came out again with sourceless speculation that the non-existentant Switch Pro was coming in 2020. I called them out here for that. At some point you'll learn not to trust these rumor-starting teenagers.

Nintendo doesn't need to respond to either the new XBox or the PS5 that might or might not ship in 2020. You haven't been paying attention since before the Wii era if you believe otherwise. Nintendo lives in a world of its own and creates the very best experiences while the others simply roar "moar power!!!" every five to seven years. Nintendo is not Sega. Nintendo knows what its doing. And it knows it's not making an upgraded Switch in 2020.

They said that they're not planning to announce new revisions during E3 June. Which turned out to be true, as they announced it after June. Here's a full quote:

“As a general rule, we’re always working on new hardware and we will announce it when we are able to sell it,” the company’s CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said during today’s earnings call, “but we have no plans to announce that at this year’s E3 in June.”
