[RUMOR] Report claims Super Mario Galaxy along with other Mario games will be remastered this year

7001907.jpg

Nintendo's mascot is celebrating his 35th anniversary this year, with some possible remasters on the way to mark the occasion, if some rumors are to be believed. News website Video Game Chronicle issued a story claiming that Nintendo would be releasing "several" major games, which would include "most of the Super Mario back catalog, remastered for the Nintendo Switch". VGC's sister site, Eurogamer, also corroborated the story, with their own sources hinting at Super Mario Galaxy being one of the remastered mystery games. Yet another reporting site, Gematsu, made its own separate claims that Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario 3D World would be involved, alongside a brand new Paper Mario reveal. Only time will tell if these rumors turn out to be true, but they certainly would be major announcements, if so.

[UPDATE]

The original story has been updated, with the outlet providing more concrete details from their alleged source. Supposedly, Mario 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy 1 will be released as "a special anniversary collection", instead of just straight ports. That release will be followed up with a Deluxe version of the Wii U's Super Mario 3D World, featuring new content. Finally, a new Paper Mario game is rumored, with the site claiming it'll be a "return to the series' RPG roots".

If you want Galaxy 1 in HD,there is a texture pack for Dolphin. Don't remember if Galaxy 2 had similar treatment from the community, though.
Not really the same, since it's mostly just a fanmade texture pack (nothing wrong with that) but it probably won't meet the same uplift that these collection of games are getting.
Since I am expecting some really insane improvements for galaxy. As what carried galaxy was in it's textures. (seriously, textures in that game carried)
but if this collection is near anywhere close in detail to super Mario Odyssey in models and just raw aww, and we get the insane texture work. Honestly, I don't think you could easily recreate that with just a texture pack.

i cant wait to play galaxy one with joycons!
probably gonna snap the rails off by vigorous shaking
preety sure they will remove the shaking being needed imo, not like it was even needed on wii besides being gimmiky since any button could do the spin and shaking did nothing special.

...Is that site USA-only, or does it also work for international users? Like, say, Australians? A lot of sites only refer to American stores and prices, thus leaving folks like me without a reason to use those services.

Needless to say, I'm not some paid advertiser for this site! XD I just became aware of it as I was getting into PC building 5 years ago, and wanted to sound like Linus Tech Tips for a second!

I hope they also remove the stupid motion controls for the ray-surfing, bubble-blowing and ball-rolling; those six Stars made me quit Galaxy 1, being the straws that broke my camel's back.

Analog sticks work just fine; no need to implement something infinitely worse just to utilise shitty console gimmicks, Nintendo.

those will probably still use the gyro like botw i think, sure it would also work if they let you use the analog stick but who knows, they like adding stuff that uses gyro controls.

Gyro might "work" if this hypothetical remake/port is played portably, but docked? I don't see any way for gyro to work docked. Hopefully they will implement proper controls for docked players.

Gyro is in all official Switch Pro Controllers for sure and the Joy-Cons. If anything, I consider the Switch to be a good recipe for a lot of Wii ports like Metroid Prime Trilogy, this, the Resident Evil Chronicle games, No More Heroes (which was all based around motion controls), etc, as far as I can see it as you have the Joy-Cons that don't need a fucking bar with a cable that's far longer than necessary to work properly.

That being said though, it would be nice if the games that are third party actually got PC ports with support for the Steam controller's, the DS4's (which apparently are pretty good with Steam Input, but seeing as its only used on PS4-exclusive games, it just didn't get a good chance) and the Switch's gyro controls along with inputs for all of them so stuff like the Resident Evil Chronicle games can actually be playable. Sure, you can get it to be "playable" via the Steam Controller, setting up Dolphin to launch it both games on Steam, and setting up a profile, but when I sure hope you know what button does what when the QTE prompts start showing up!

motion controls is fine with me i can live with moving around on the couch
I've had awful experiences with Wii motion controls - never once worked, no matter what I tried - so please forgive me if I'm uncomfortable with being forced to use them when inherently better controls already exist and are already used throughout the rest of the game.

Why wouldn't it? Controllers have gyros in them and the original game was played on a TV.

docked works just the same... joycons and switch pro controller use the same gyro the switch uses when portable lol, the tablet itself doesnt have a gyro only the joycons so portable or docked its the same exact thing.

Thing is, they'd have to re-tool the game to work around the gyros in the new controllers, because I'm pretty sure the gyro controls in the Switch Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers (again, official ones for sure. Anything else, you're gambling) aren't based around pointing within a restrictive IR bar that you have to be sitting or standing perfectly center, with no obstructions, and far enough way from the TV for the controls to work right.

I can understand the sentiment of people not wanting to give motion controls a second shot. Unless if I'm playing a game where they will definitely improve the experience, I'd rather use a M/KB or controller any day of the week. There's even a series of mods that requires using the Ishiiruka Dolphin build for the entire Metroid Prime Trilogy on Wii that enables it to be played with a M/KB, something I'd love to try and setup one of these days, but seeing as I'm popping into Linux here, that won't be until everything else I have is set up and works with no problems on the OS!

I'm sorry, a what?

Mouse and keyboard. I remember some people touting Metroid Prime 3 Corruption back in the day as being the closest the console was getting to M/KB controls, and while I'm sure those who could adapt to the scheme could back that statement up, if you gave me the choice between Wiimote and M/KB, I'd take M/KB due to it not needing a fucking sensor bar to work correctly.

Ah, that makes sense now; thank you.
As can be inferred from my previous posts, I also agree with your opinion; not requiring a sensor bar is always a good thing.
