LEGO City: Undercover has been delisted from the Wii U and 3DS eShops

What was once a Wii U exclusive has been removed from the platform. 2013's LEGO City: Undercover has been delisted from the Wii U eShop, along with LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins on the Nintendo 3DS, joining the ranks of Netflix and DSiWare titles in a recent removal spree occurring on older Nintendo systems. At the very least, both games had a physical release, and LEGO City: Undercover was re-released on the Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

They're going to take down the Wii U and 3DS online services down, right? This is no surprise.

does it really matter if games are 'lost forever'? This hobby is only about 40 years old, in 40 more years there are probably going to be another 200 lego based games, do we really need to preserve everything? Nintendo are delisting these because they aren't making (enough) money, they can't keep every game ever on their servers until the end of time just for the sake of preservation.

In that time all your optical media will be worthless unreadable trash too, and probably the same for carts if they're not expertly cared for, and very few people are going to care.

I guarantee that long term this ‘does it matter’ mentality would be a mistake, just like in the Film and TV industry where allot of media has either been lost forever, only found by chance, keep circulating the tapes, etc.

what in the hell is going on over there at nintendo...cause that wasn't even a game made by nintendo themselves...there has to be some rime or reason to all these delistings...I know it sure as hell isn't them having financial issue given how well the switch is doing

the thing is...like I said...this isn't even made by nintendo...why would 3rd party devs suddenly start following how nintendo has been treating there games out of the blue?

Well it is probably through a license agreement. Microsoft game pass frequently delist games all the time. I don't know the logistics but it does cost them money to keep the game on the shop so my best guess it was no longer generating money to remain on the shop.

That's my best guess.

The thing with buying digital games it isn't a secure purchase. Let's just say if they ban your account then you lose access to all of your games they will say you broke a rule and you forfeit your rights to ownership to your account. So imagine if you bought the lego game on the Wii U idk if you can download it again if they delist the game.

This is what makes me worry about my PS4 games because I have alot of digital games that idk if I would still have access to them 10 years from now. I just buy physical to avoid these problems

delisted game 99% of the time are still available for download for those who own it. and as for the thing about 10 years from now...these companies better get there shit together with how sony and microsoft are also pushing digital only variants of there machines...but either way, my confusion as to what in the world is going on at nintendo hq conitinues...as far as I know it's still only in NA that dsi games got axed hard too...it just makes no sense what is going on...

Instead of just quietly delisting games, why doesn’t Nintendo stop being a little bitch and just shutdown the entire service? Like, no one wants them to shut it all down but at least it wouldn’t be this nonsense where they are quietly removing games from the market
Er, no, don't shut down the Wii U/3DS eShops. They're still the only way to experience Virtual Console (since the Switch lacks it, stupidly), and the English Ace Attorney games (on 3DS) are eShop-exclusive - no physical release.
Not to mention other, lesser-known 3DS and Wii U games that don't have a physical release.
