Nintendo DSi Shop & Wii Shop Channel quietly pulled offline, with no ability to redownload titles

20220316_224035.jpg

If Nintendo announcing the discontinuation of the eShop for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U wasn't bad enough, strap yourselves in. Around 10:00pm CST, with no prior announcement, both the DSi Shop and Wii Shop Channels were quietly pulled offline, leaving previously downloaded purchases and titles unable to be redownloaded, showing error codes 290502 and 209601 for both systems respectively. Nintendo's CDN, which is the download server that houses all of the update and shop data, remains to be active with the ability to download titles with tools such as NUSDownloader, showing that only the frontend of the stores have suddenly disappeared. Nintendo's status page still lists that everything is operational, though it's currently unknown if this was a mistake like last year's eShop incident, or if this really is the end of an era.

[6-7-2022 Update]
Both shops are back online. See this post for more information.

I should upload it somewhere. there's nearly 3,000 wads in the folder at 62.5GBs. it might take a while to upload, and I'd need a fast, free upload service. should I split it up into parts?
There's a Google Drive link containing all the WiiWare and Virtual Console WADS.
While it's surprising you've backed up all of these, it would be a waste of your time when they can be found elsewhere.

Let's just not forget you own everything 🤟

I can't wait to read these things in the future when gamers are going to be informed that all those games they paid for...
...were mere rentals with no re-sell value what so ever. Corporate Dictatorship +1, People 0.

Who cares. Move on from the past already and accept that things change and not every shop will stay open.

RIP.
16 years of uptime is more then the original Xbox has gotten.
Did the original Xbox have a digital market place? Please correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I know it only had multiplayer capabilities.

A market place for digital goods was introduced on the Xbox 360 which for supported software (Back compat games) works to this day on the newer xbox's without having to purchase a new license/copy.

Has anyone tried it now with this information?
I'm starting to get a bad feeling they really did just do a stealth shutdown. The wii eshop has been like this for days or so I've heard.

Also bizarre the mainstream gaming media just continues to not care. It's a major "nintendo vs. consumer rights" development.

This is why you should NEVER invest in digital shit, it could be pulled at any time, so kiss your money goodbye.

Dont line their greedy pockets as they charge more for digital content that you dont own, unlike a physical game that could earn you money over the years or give you a nice price if you decide to trade it in towards a new console (I'd say next gen, but it doesnt apply to nintendont) or even put the money in your wallet.

Cant do this with digital, nor could you slap your game on in 20 years time, if they put it down.

Stop supporting digital, your only giving them the excuse to say digital only is the future and screw you, the gamer over.

Microsoft will try this hence why they're buying out all these major studios to add to their digital only platform, come their next gen its likely we will see them do this as its perfects their plan for the xbox 1 when they tried to prevent gamers selling their games and playing pre owned games.

Why, didnt they claim its because they're not making anything off pre owned game sales.

So rightfully gamers kicked off and microsoft scrapped it, but silently here comes plan b, so stop investing in digital, save yourself some money and make some money at the same time and also support your local small game shops, since digital has become mainstream we find more small game stores close down.

Dont let the likes of nintendont, microsoft or Sony monopolise the gaming market and we are left out of pocket.

Yeah, I'm gonna bet it's not coming back. From the sound of things, this must be some kind of critical or fatal error, or at least a moderate issue that Nintendo can't be assed to fix because nobody (read: hardly anybody) uses NUS anymore on Wii and DSi. And honestly I'm surprised this day didn't come sooner. Would probably be a good idea to work towards a community replacement/alternative for updating Wii and DSi systems.
I think we should start considering a freeshop for the Wii or DSi now that everythinf has been backed up, just to add on the level of convenience of opening an application on the home menu, selecting what you want to download and it's on the home menu when you get back.

Why did Nintendo not make all the eShop open like Microsoft store and make them all be different because if Nintendo kept Nintendo WiFi eShop open and running then slot of people would be happy and there would be WAY less pirating than before

Like why Nintendo ? WHYYYYY6YYYYÝ
