I think Windows started to become a bit of a pain after Windows 7. I eventually updated to 10 and have zero interest updating to 11. I will likely switch to Linux permanently soon.

problem is i dual boot on many of my laptops with a variant of windows. not because its cool. because its needed for niche homebrews, software and games.

I haven't used Windows since Vista

not even in a virtual machine?

Vista wasn't a great operating system from the start, most computers of that era weren't that powerful to run it.
I had a computer literally custom-made for Vista and it was still not having a good time. So went to Linux and never turned back.

Not even on VM. Literally haven't touched it beyond the few tools that refuse to work Wine. Then I had my wife run them.

I'm thinking of switching to Linux as well since Windows is mostly bloated from the ground up. But then again, most of the software I used are for Windows, and cross-compatibility with Wine is a mixed bag.

another point is a lot of companies still have to use windows 7 and 8.x

I'd still be using Windows 10 if I could but the audio drivers for my new laptop only work correctly on Windows 11. Currently using ExplorerPatcher to hack explorer.exe in to acting like it's running under win 10.

why tho? if you dont like windows 11 that much, have you thought about using a linux ditro?

I would switch to Linux but because of certain assignments at university it just makes my life easier to stick to Windows for the time being. I work in WSL half the time so I'll probably switch once I graduate.

I don't know if it's still the case but circa 2015 M$ were still maintaining a special build of Windows XP for select clients, particularly the US military.

NHS was using windows XP. which why it was hacked by ransomware and Microsoft had to release a special update.

Windows XP is the best of all times!!

Yes. I use XP in a virtual machine for testing old software.

I remember when this happened and it costed them like billions of pounds in damages. This just shows what happens when you're not bothered to update your OS.

on youtube, the Harbor of Tech created a debloated version of Windows 11, you should check it out!
Haven't heard of that, I normally just download a debloater utility to do all of the work.

Was using 7 a while ago but the only software that kept me from dropping Windows completely stopped working on it so i set up a new dual boot with W10. I rarely use Windows. Almost always Linux.

the legal drinking age here in the US is 21, as some of you may know, but i think either it should be 18 or the age you're an adult should be 21.

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and i know what you may be thinking, "why become an adult at 21? doesn't that mean that banging an 18 year old would be illegal?"
first of all, being in a relationship with someone who's 18 is technically ok, as long as it started when they were 18, but the age gap is still weird depending on how old you are. besides, the age of consent differs between different states
    +1
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
also my reasoning for adult age being 21 is because the reason that's the drinking (and now smoking) age is because it "gives them more time to think rationally and not drive drunk"
so you should have that extra time to mature and think rationally before going to serve in the military or vote

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
tl;dr the "adult" age and the legal drinking age (and voting age) here in the US should be the same

What about making kids wait till 18 or 21 to drive? And yea is messed up, you can join army and die for your country at age 18, but you can't drink alcohol or smoke a cig til 21, is ridiculous

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
If someone is in the military they should be allowed to smoke and drink at 18.... Would help drive recruitment lol

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
We all know they do and will anyways. I think laws prevented them only pushes them to illegally do it. Even tho if was legal, most prob wouldn't even bother. Not a big deal or risque if its legal, no fun.

That's why some kids don't mind having a rap sheet or two just so they never get drafted

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
also, i think the voting age should match the adult and drinking ages too, because by the logic of giving them time to mature and think rationally so they don't drive drunk, then they should also have that time to mature and think rationally so they can think for themselves
