Typical Mondo

I’ve been reviewing Mondo’s video game soundtrack vinyls for a while now and came to expect a certain level of quality. Living up to the expectations, the original 28 BMG tracks from the game that spread across two 12" 180 Gram LPs are all reproduced faithfully, effectively putting you once more in Simon Belmont's shoes as he ventures through the eleven levels in Transylvania to hunt down Dracula.

These are the Silver and Red Splatter edition

The music itself has been done by Konami Kukeiha Club which includes  Masanori Adachi and Taro Kudo, the original composers of the game’s soundtrack.

Not Typical Mondo

Mondo’s vinyls are usually packaged with stunning artworks, be it on the cover or the vinyl record itself. However, their Super Castlevania IV vinyl art, particularly the inner art and record's art got me feeling differently...

I cannot help but feel like their Super Castlevania IV art does not do the product enough justice. Not that JenoLab’s work is bad but they feel rather uninspired, especially when compared to Mondo’s previous Castlevania soundtrack vinyl release, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. The latter captured the game-y feel in its art so much that it became one of my favorites.

Artwork aside, I’d still very much recommend Mondo’s latest video game soundtrack vinyl. Hope your collection is growing and I don’t think Mondo’s close to prevent it from that!

Verdict

What We Liked ...
  • Faithfully reproduced soundtrack on vinyl format
  • Konami managed to credit the original composer this time around!
What We Didn't Like ...
  • Artwork feels rather uninspired
7.8

Overall

Another of Mondo’s vinyls to add to your collection!
Fully agreed on the artwork being... straight out boring. The Castlevania III one is superb, and so is the Silent Hill one.
Nice review yet again mate! :D
