Nintendo Switch firmware update 18.0.1 has been released

swithch.png

A new Nintendo Switch firmware update is here. System software version 18.0.1 has been released. This update offers the typical stability features as all other updates have, while also fixing a problem some users have experienced with wireless connectivity. As for Atmosphere compatibility concerns, SciresM says that the current Atmosphere 1.7.0 pre-release version should work fine with the new firmware update.

Indeed. Switch to the dark side if you want additional themes, launchers and so on. :)
Only thing I expect from any of the future updates is to not break any or, at least, not too many things that people need to update to make their hacked consoles working again. if they release something meaningful, that's a huge bonus for us from them, a miracle even.
Exactly, just don't expect anything from Nintendo and you won't get disappointed. You barely get some icons by playing games or whatever, so what are we even talking about. Nintendo is in the stone age with Switch, in every possible way. If things won't change with the successor then I hope they'll get what they deserve.
I also just hope that future updates won't brake things and that's all, no other expectations or wishes at this point.

Can we collectively petition for Michael to make the atmosphere CFW versioning match the OFW version, to end confusion?

This way you would know exactly which atmosphere version worked with which OFW version. You could know it's up to date at a glance. Thered be no more guess work.

I can't be the only one that hates this. 😭

Nintendo really trying hard to stop hacking on the switch.
The only thing that will slow it to a crawl is if they quit being so staunch and give people what they want. Let us buy our ROMs again like we could on the Wii and Wii U, give us Netflix and other streaming services, and give us more than the 2 boring themes. It's not that they can't, it's that they're stubborn and they WON'T.

Not sure why anyone gets mad at the firmware updates. If you are that worried about having access to custom firmware, then don't update the damn system. Plain and simple, getting angry is dumb in this case, because it solves absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Something to get frustrated about however... GBAtemp on mobile is absolute trash, I'm sorry, but I swear the fact this site somehow is functional on mobile is a miracle and a half, between the stupid amounts of ads to the constant and spontaneous page reloads... You certainly have a better time on computers, that's 100% sure.
Probably because we're on FW 18 now and it's still pretty much exactly the same as launch with zero functionality (added or to begin with). It's embarrassing.

To be honest, I never had any real demands for features to be crammed into a firmware, personally I miss the simplistic days of the Nintendo DS where you had a firmware, but it wasn't so over the top that it would hinder performance and such (or taking a bit just to turn a system on), just to launch a game. Maybe I can't understand the logic so much because typically I don't go nuts with customization related tweaks with my systems, I still use the default Windows wallpaper on my computer for crying out loud, my focus aligns with the efficiency and execution of what I am playing more than a home menu looking fancy. The only real reason I'll even mention points in relation to the lack of stuff like themes is solely because platforms like the 3DS had them, to call a system a "successor" to me implies that it's basically just as good as the predecessor platform if not better (and no, I don't mean at the hardware level, there is more to technology than throwing power into the mix), to which I still feel the Nintendo Switch is an insult to the idea of being a worthy successor to the Nintendo 3DS family. I tend to prioritize efficiency over aesthetics, and I doubt that will ever change.

In a vacuum I might agree. But other consoles/handhelds exist. The Switch doesn't even have basic functionality like a web browser. Even the DS (technically) and DSi had a browser.

Why aren't they in the world Guiness? Or is there anything more stable than switch? :toot:

I think that's pointless cause usually atmosphere is also retro compatible with old FW and they are 2 different things since atmosphere can have multiple versions with stuff fixed while Nintendo doesn't update FW.

I also think it's more than clear right away what FW it supports when you always check latest version in just seconds...

((╬◣﹏◢)) mfw people are here complaining about the lack of new features such as "web browsers" when Nintendo is clearly keeping it simple to cutdown possible attack vectors (for piracy)

God forbid we can use folders or sort options on the home screen, or filters anywhere.
Even the 3DS let you change the amount of icons on screen at once.
Other options - such as skipping user select when you have only one user on the console or have selected a default, or not burying the shutdown option under a long button press and a sub-menu - would not hurt either.

Maybe make the eShop stop sucking too. That's probably too hard for them though.

You people who defend Nintendo can't comprehend the difference between bogging down a UI with garbage, and adding some actually useful features that even their own previous systems had (at least in some cases). The Switch is a chore to use outside of games. We don't have to go from one extreme to another, you know.
