Nintendo officially confirms Switch successor console, announces Nintendo Direct for next month

nitennzomg.png

While rumors had been floating about rampantly as to the future plans of Nintendo, the President of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025). In the same message, Furukawa also announced that a Nintendo Direct is on the way sometime in June--though it will focus solely on latter-half 2024 Nintendo Switch titles, and will not feature any information regarding the successor system.

Current rumor reports state that a "Nintendo Switch 2" system was scheduled to be released around holiday 2024, though the hardware was delayed internally, to make sure that the upcoming system had as many quality launch titles as possible. Bloomberg has reported that Nintendo has been supplied with a notable amount of 8-inch Foxconn LCD screens, implying that the new Nintendo hardware may be very similar to the Nintendo Switch.

But how is a new upgraded powerful system gonna make more of a difference when i'm out here playing Unicorn Overload and Hades on switch? I just love hand drawn 2-D games and it's the best on switch.

If I want to play more powerful games like Helldivers 2 and Stellar Blade I just go to Playstation or PC...

Next Switch needs to have major focus on VR or 3D otherwise, I'll wait a few more years past launch before hopping on the train. I'm happy with my trio of Switch, Steam Deck and Logitech G Cloud (used for old school PS gaming). "MOAR graphics" will not sell me on the next console. I have enough of a backlog that a new console is not "needed". Nintendo, the ball is in your court. Find a way to make me "want" your next console.

I sincerely hope ninty's R&D team has figured out more spectrums of colours for themes beyond just black and white. I know it's wishful thinking given the complexity of such a thing but one can hope!

I sincerely hope ninty's R&D team sticks with only back and white for themes so the people that stare at their home screen for hours before playing a game can whine about it for another 7 years.

Everyone, please listen. My Uncle works for Nintendo, and he said that the Switch 3 is being developed. Nintendo LABO will come standard. F-Zero Extreme Blaze 420, Starfox 64-2, Ocarina of Universe, and Super Mario 65 all confirmed! It's TRUE! Maximum hype!

Be sure to make posts about this on your favorite forums for the next five or six years!

I mean i do believe you, cause it makes sense because nintnedo always release last gen console while next gen is out, so it makes sense that they develop the console now
so they can release it in 2030 and have 6 years old hardware.

So yeah... sounds legit to me!

Fair point but I would argue it is no different from wanting to have a variety of wallpapers on a desktop despite spending most of our time looking at other things. Or even changing shells of switch/joycon.

What? Why? 3d died a decade ago, and FB has cornered the market on VR. Can't it JUST be a gaming device?

3D is still alive and NO, it can't be just another gaming device. Gaming is already boring as fuck because every device plays the same damn games. We need new platforms that stand out. Platforms that attempt to be creative. I want motion, VR and 3D. Not the same old shit I can play everywhere else. I want the "Nintendo difference" not this corporate ass, boring Nintendo we have with the Switch. I'm old enough to remember the "Nintendo difference". Modern Nintendo is a shell of its former self.

recall Breath of the Wild, how its over sized, yet empty game map still to this day runs like a sack of shit.....
That's one hell of an overexaggeration and you know it. Also, some people prefer a map where you don't stumble upon a collectable every inch.

B2T: I call Metroid Prime 4, too.

Took 'em long enough.

As for whether I'll be interested in the thing...well, I initially wasn't interested in the Switch 1, as no games really interested me until 2017 (ironically, I believe my system-seller was Xenoblade Chronicles 2), and I did NOT like the concept of bringing the Wii's fucked motion controls back with the JoyCons after the Wii U rightfully killed them off (thankfully, motion controls are still only in a minority of games - the only one at all relevant to me being Pokémon Let's Go - so that didn't end up as a real concern).

I also disliked, and still dislike, how cramped the stupid JoyCons are, as well as the unaligned analog sticks compared to the Wii U's and Wii Classic Controller's aligned sticks, so that also was a third reason why I delayed buying the OG Switch.
Even when I did get my Switch, I used a MagicNS dongle to connect my Wii U Pro Controller for a while before it stopped working and I moved to 8bitdo's controllers (which feature aligned sticks).

In short, I'll have to see the launch lineup and the controllers; if there's something interesting unique to it, and the controllers aren't ASS, then I'll consider it. If not, I'll delay again; the OG Switch is still good enough, as is my laptop (currently playing through Mass Effect again; been years since I touched that series).
