AYANEO reveals new retro-themed handhelds and accessories in its new REMAKE line of products

ayaneo remake products.jpg

AYANEO announced its retro-themed REMAKE line of products late last year. During a product update sharing session aired today, the company has revealed new products that will be released under this line. While specs of the products were also revealed, release dates were not; but we can expect more news to be shared in the coming months. You can view the full video session below and a text break-down of each product shown follows:

AYANEO Pocket DMG

This is the company's first vertically-oriented handheld and looks like a revamped GameBoy Pocket. It is an Android-based device with a 3.92" OLED screen, 1240x1080 resolution and is powered by the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 gaming platform.

AYANEO Pocket MICRO

As its name suggests, the AYANEO Pocket MICRO draws inspiration from the GBA Micro. It features a horizontal layout and a bezel-less full-screen design encased in an aluminium frame. The display's resolution is 960x640, which is 4x that of the GBA's 240x160 resolution. Powering this device is the Helio G99 processor, which is more than capable of emulating GBA titles.

AYANEO Starship Graphics Dock AG01

AYANEO's first graphics dock bears a sci-fi design. The AG01 is equipped with the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT mobile graphics card (based on the RDNA 3 architecture). The company aims to have the AG01 as the "most versatile and feature-rich eGPU dock on the market", with a range of interfaces including DP 2.0, HDMI 2.1, OCuLink, USB4, and tool-free expansion for M.2 2280 SSDs. USB4 and OCuLink cables will be included with the dock.

AYANEO Retro Mini PC AM01S

This mini PC is an upgraded version of AYANEO's previous Retro Mini PC AM01. It includes a flip screen, an AMD 8000HS series processor, a 65W dual-fan cooling system, dual USB4 ports, and dual 2.5G network ports.

AYANEO AIR 1S 8840U Version

AYANEO also introduced a new variant of the Air 1S handheld gaming PC. This model sports the AMD 8840U chip while sharing most of the features of the regular 7840U model.

AYANEO Retro Power Bank

This 12,000 mAh power bank, which adopts the design of a certain retro console, is AYANEO's first such accessory. It features a monochrome OLED screen displaying battery life and charging/discharging power, dual USB-C ports support, and 45W PD fast charging, compatible with Windows handhelds.

Per year? Seems like every couple of weeks.

A DSi XL is a great choice if you're interested and it has IPS screens.
^ absolutely this. Everybody forget this. The DSi XL has dual IPS screens, and can run pretty much all the games people want to emulate on these handhelds. And they are fairly inexpensive...and the quality is top-notch.

I see people trying to play DS and 3ds games on a single (tiny) screen, and I wonder why? Just get a DS or a 3ds.

I was just testing the EZ Flash Omega Definitive GBA cart on my OG DS and DS Lite, and it's awesome. The OG DS (bottom) screen is admittedly inferior to DSL's, but it still looks surprisingly good.

My nitpick with the DS is that for games that only use one screen (GBA/GBC/GB/etc), it seems a bit pointless and you can't really get rid of the other screen (unless you'd physically remove it like a jackass did on YouTube for views).

god yes, the dsi xl has so much better screens than both of my 3dses and my sister's old DS lite, far far far better colour reproduction... same the buttons are kind of shallow in comparison though

For the $50 I spent on it, I couldn't be more impressed with the Miyoo Mini Plus. Tears through SNES, GBA, arcade, and PS1 games, which is most of what I would want to play on a screen that small. The D-pad is really great too, I keep coming back to Third Strike on it.

Why are people praising how overkill the specs of that DMG Pocket is? I dont get it.

Its only got one analog stick, which is awkwardly positioned, and from the pics it seems like its only got one pair of shoulder buttons. Meaning this cant even map all of the PSX's controls or the N64, let along all the consoles beyond that (except Dreamcast which would map perfectly).

So what are you gonna do with all that extra processing power?

I’m more bewildered than praising it lol. It’s remarkably stupid, with the only real use case in my mind being a Game Boy that can be docked to actually meet its potential. Like I said above they should’ve just stuck with the G99.

The Pocket DMG looks as cool as it seems to be over engineered to the max. But if it isn't overpriced and fairly reasonable (300$ range?) the Analogue Pocket will be outclassed by far. Tbh, I also hate the manufacturing and selling practices of Analogue, so I wish them to get out competed here (yes Im aware of the uniqueness of FPGA chip-sets) because the other vertical handhelds are targeting a different audience.

I dont think this can compete with the Analogue Pocket. I think the main attraction of it besides the FPGA core is the fact that it can play original carts. Its basically a over-engineered clone of the original Game Boy Colour or GBA, etc. The people who buy it, are only doing so for the FPGA cores and the carts (and maybe the hi res screen). Otherwise theres other cheaper devices you can buy that can play a larger library of games through software emulation.

The AYANEO Pocket DMG cant really do what the Analogue Pocket can, but its probably gonna be in the same price range or higher because of the Snapdragon chip inside.
Now if we're talking about comparable devices in terms of specs, then its the AYN Odin 2 with the SD8 gen 2 chip vs the G3x gen 2 on the Pocket DMG.
The base model Odin 2 sells for $299 but also has a full set of buttons and a 16:9 1080p screen (as opposed to a more square-ish 1080p screen). So I dont see how the Pocket DMG will compete with that either.

Im trying to imagine a scenario where this Pocket DMG makes sense but I cant think of one.

At least the screen of the Pocket DMG looks awesome and could be the first competitor to the high density screen of the Analogue Pocket but why on earth didn't they include L2 and R2 shoulder buttons? The even put a damn analogue stick on there but only one pair of shoulder buttons? Wow... It seems like a curse but every single device seem to do at least one little thing wrong.

First of all... do you think anybody would be as stupid as to create a handheld with just the L1 and R2 buttons? That makes NO sense. Left... 1 and Right.... 2? What? The youtube video shows the engraving of R1 and R2 on the right side so I'm guessing the top railing is L2 and R2 and is clickable on each side. If that works well is another question.

Hard pass on most of AYANEO's overpriced, overrated, glorified uninspiring so-called premium look-alike products.
Post automatically merged:

So many people just forget the DSi XL. It's so cheap on eBay too (at least in the UK). Absolutely stellar system, especially with CFW nowadays being able to boot DS games from the SD card.
A flash cart could allow you to do the same thing on the DS Lite and the DS Lite still retained its GB/GBA cartridge port for native GB/GBA gameplay...

I’m aware, but the DSi XL screens are frankly just the best way to play DS games. Plus not needing to buy a flashcard for the system is a bonus.

Is the screen really that special?
Its actually just a 1080p screen with the horizontal pixels chopped off to bring it down to 4:3 ratio instead of 16:9.
This isnt anything special.

Idk how many actually released, but it seems like at 14 companies were tying to make their own Steam Machines.
There were quite a few signed on but only three actually came out. A Zotac box, an Alienware one, and one other OEM I can't remember. i3 was going to going to release one called the Piston but the Steam Machine project shuddered before it could come out and it ended up coming out as a regular mini PC with a different name. At one point the Alienware one was actually a steal because they discounted the shit out of it to $449. Which for a brand new small form factor PC (it was slightly smaller than the PS4) with the performance to play all the current gen (at the time) games? Yes please.
