The Last Tinker tries its hand at being a throw back to the the days of colorful 3D platformers, but does it stand up the its ancestors glory?

(Did you like my video review? What can I do to make them better? I would like to do more of them, I just need a little feedback! Thanks!)

Verdict

What We Liked ...
  • Beautiful bright world
  • Music is passable
  • Immersive world
What We Didn't Like ...
  • Screen tearing
  • No designated free jump button
  • "Hold R2 to win" gameplay
  • Boring fighting mechanics
4
Gameplay
The gameplay almost feel like it was put together by the same elementary art class. The TLT calls itself a platformer, but has no jumping outside of designated jump spots. No map or free roaming, all confined to "point A to point B" objective hunting. Also, normally I don't really care about frame rates and things, but this one gets pretty signification screen tearing and frame spikes in open areas. Pretty noticeable too.
10
Presentation
The game looks, feels, and sounds great! The environments are made out of what looks like elementary school art supplies including cardboard, clay and paint.
3
Lasting Appeal
Almost none, if you can even muster up the courage to finish this ironically bland title.
4.8
out of 10

Overall

What looks like a fun and beautiful spiritual sequel to the DKC64, SM64 and other bright colorful platformers of old, is more of a bland waterings down of an "adventure".

Couple issues...video is only available in 1080p, and Filetrip doesn't exactly have the speeds for streaming 1080p only...I had to download the video so I could watch it without buffering every couple seconds...

And Bortz's audio is a little quiet compared to the game audio, it's a bit difficult to hear him over the game.

But otherwise it was quite a nice format, Bortz did a great job on this review ^_^

Fixed at least the streaming issue and uploaded to youtube. Thanks for the kind words. I like doing this kinda thing.

Good work, continue doing this :) But the volume needs fixing, your voice is way too quiet!

I like the video review because it lets me see more of the game than screenshots do. Plus the sexy voice.

I think it would also help to have a written review together with the video review - for those people who don't have the time to watch a video beginning to end.

Yes, volume needs adjusting, that is certainly an oversight by me. I wonder if Share Factory would be up for releasing software that records audio and video individually. I guess i am asking for two channels, game volume and mic volume... oh well. I'll have it fixed for the next video. If/when I get some time, ill be releasing a few test video reviews, Super Motherload and PS4 version of Hotline Miami. I would appreciate comments when I do those too, they wont be featured, so keep please keep an eye out for them.

I dont know about a full transcript of my words into writing... The point of the video is to not have to do a written review. But maybe more fleshed out bullet points for pros and cons.

Looks like a failed Zelda: The Wind Waker rip-off. Just leave it to the pro's (Nintendo)...

...did you even watch the video, or did you just assume anything with Cel shading is instantly ripping off Nin10doh? The game is absolutely nothing like Wind Wanker, Cel shading was a thing way before Wind Wanker was even conceived. Jet Set Radio on the Dreamcast was probably the first Cel Shaded game, so I guess Nin10doh is ripping off Sega

And if you look close, you will see that none of the surfaces are actually... cel shaded. They are all richly textured lol

I noticed you're only listing this being available also for Xbox One, and not mentioning it is available on Steam too.

I would like a Predator game "Kill Team" it takes place in the Jungle of the first movie, your team is sent to hunt the predator, using current tech drones and a trained team. Set traps use strategy to hunt and trap or kill the predator.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Ill stick with my Battlefield. Yea a predator hunting game like that would be cool. Esp if you can be Arnold and say "Get to da choppa"
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe Arnold could do a cameo voice acting, he is the one briefing you on the mission

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Sounds like it would be an exciting ride....
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Not sure I would want something on fire between my legs
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
He ruined it basically. Sad cause it was a decent old bike. It would take more money to rewire the bike than it was worth tho.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah I'm sure at minimum the starter was fried
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I think it be cool to have one that would fit in my pickup truck bed, then I could put down ramps n drive it off.
