Earlier this year, Turtle Beach launched the Stealth Pro gaming audio peripheral, with the company even touting it as the “king of wireless” headsets. I was intrigued by what it had to offer and was excited to be able to actually test it. So let’s take a closer look at it in this review.

Contents and specs of the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro package

As the company’s flagship headset, the Stealth Pro packs a premium price of €329.99. There are two models to choose from based on console compatibility, an Xbox and a PlayStation one (but still multiplatform), but they should come with the same items:

Premium price, premium comfort

With its price tag, the Stealth Pro might be a prohibitive consideration. But if you want a well designed and comfortable headset, then look no further. This peripheral's hardware attests to its expert craftsmanship and the price is indicative of that.

Its large, leatherette-lined and padded earcups offer comfort for extended use; as does the adjustable, padded headband. The earcups’ cushions also allow glasses to be worn without any inconvenience; a relief for bespectacled users like myself.

With its steel-reinforced headband and frame, the Stealth Pro is sturdily built. You can safely toss it in your bag and it can withstand bumps and even light drops. If you do want to bring it during your travels, there's even a soft pouch included that also fits in the mic and cables. However, I wish a hard carry case was also included to offer more protection, also considering the price of the package.

Despite being a gaming headset, the Stealth Pro packs a sleek, inconspicuous look. It's all-black, no frills design makes it really versatile to bring to your gaming sessions or commute alike as it is compatible with Bluetooth devices, including phones, PCs and the Switch. The detachable mic is also welcome to allow for more diverse use cases.

In addition, the swivelling earcups make it easy to wear around your neck when momentarily pausing use.

On the hardware side, I wish more physical buttons were available on the device. While the wheel and customisable button on the right earcup can be remapped, having additional buttons on the other earcup would have allowed for more on-board controls, especially when listening to music, such as skipping tracks.

The Stealth Pro says "quiet please"

Turtle Beach considers the Stealth Pro as its best sounding headset ever. And surely, it is a great -sounding headset. With its 50mm Nanoclear drivers and optimised audio cavity, the output is faithful in every scenario.

Conversations with NPCs in The Witcher 3 are clear while the game’s soundtracks are captivating. During combat sessions in Cyberpunk 2077, gunshots reverberate with the headset's robust bass. When used to listen to music, subtle audio cues can be discerned, which further attest to the quality of this device. It's a great companion for audio devices like the Fiio M15.

It really delivers a powerful audio experience on-the-go, and you can further tune its settings with the companion app. The app further lets you customise the mappable button and wheel to your liking.

The boom microphone and two concealed mics are more than serviceable. They pick up the user's voice clearly and the device further filters out voice and reduces background noise. This makes the Stealth Pro apt for voice chats while gaming or to pick up phone/video calls. In fact, this headset features dual connectivity to enable you to pair with your console and phone simultaneously without missing out on your calls/notifications during your gaming sessions.

In addition to its high-fidelity audio output, what made me adopt the Stealth Pro as my daily driver is its excellent noise-cancellation feature. Packing four internal noise-cancelling microphones, these can reduce ambient noise by up to 25dB; and boy, does it make a difference. If your gaming space is usually quiet, then the Stealth Pro will make it more so, muffling even coughs or steps to deliver a more immersive experience.

I was recently on a 3+ hour bus ride and the headset was a great companion as it tuned down my chatty neighbours and loud kids. Louder noise like the bus' engine wouldn't drown out completely but was noticeably muffled. It’s also effective at drowning sounds in busy areas such as airports or cafes. However, the volume of some sounds appear to be augmented over others, even with the noise-cancellation maxed out; and it can make it trickier to use in some busy environment cases.

As this is a wireless headset, connectivity concerns might arise. With Bluetooth 5.0 and compatibility with Xbox wireless pairing, the Stealth Pro offers stable connection. I haven't experienced any issues on this front, whether it's for pairing with my Xbox, Switch or phone. However, I wish Turtle Beach still included a wired option. This could have made the headset even more versatile than it already is; as well as do away with any latency concerns.

As for the battery, the Stealth Pro is generous in its lifespan. In fact, it packs an innovative swappable battery pack system, with each pack providing around 12 hours of battery life; and a quick 15-min charge can provide 3 hours of battery in a pinch. I was instantly fond of these swappable batteries as they not only enable prolonged use but also mean that the lifespan of the headset itself isn't tied to a built-in battery.

Wireless gaming headset royalty?

As a wireless gaming headset, the Stealth Pro gets a lot of things right. It boasts excellent audio fidelity, is versatile and comfortable, enhances the audio experience with its remarkable noise cancellation and features swappable batteries. These make it a clear winner, worthy of the "king of wireless" moniker that Turtle Beach gave it.

But as a regular headset, there are still some aspects that could have made the package further compelling, especially considering the price, such as a hard carry case, a wired option and more physical controls.

However, you can't go wrong with this headset if you do invest in one. And it’s best considered as an investment as the swappable battery system means the device’s longevity can be extended.

Bring back the triton brand

Yeah I literally had to send my stealth 600's after a week in for repair cause the hinges broke with lite use. A month later the same thing happened again, I just used alot of epoxy to hold it together. They work but are my backup pair. I now use a SteelSeries Arctis 7P+ and have no complaints about it.
