All PS3 games are now bootable on PS3 emulator RPCS3

The PlayStation 3 emulator RPCS3 hit a new milestone today as the team announced that all known games released on the PS3 will now boot. While, of course, this does not mean that all PS3 games are playable, it is still significant progress, especially given how notoriously difficult the PS3 is to emulate.

On their website, the RPCS3 team breaks down game compatibility into five categories: playable, meaning the game can be played with reasonable performance to completion; in-game, meaning it is playable to a point, but cannot be completed; intro, meaning it will load an image but won't get to gameplay; loadable, meaning it will only display a black screen and a framerate counter; and nothing, meaning it won't initialize at all, and possibly crash the emulator. Of the 3233 games in their compatibility list, about 63% of them are playable to completion on RPCS3, and about 30% are playable in some form. This means that about 5% stop at the main menu, and only six remain in the loading category. According to their Tweet, they will now begin working on clearing those last six titles out of the loading category.

I keep reading year after year about how complex the PS3 was. It didn't translate to better games. And PS3 emulation is further along than X360 emulation or even original Xbox emulation. I realize there are other factors such as the abilities and amount of time spent by the respective teams, but the PS3 was simply a pain in the ass to develop for thanks to Sony's inability to deliver an elegant system to develop for. It's not insanely difficult to actually emulate. An original Xbox is, however.

As Rock Band 3 and the Beatles Rock Band work on RPCS3 with pro drums and do not on the Xbox emulator, I am really happy with the progress these folks have made, and I'm not in any way trying to take away from their accomplishment.

Awesome progress!
The RPCS3 team themselves also tend to share progress reports every now and then, usually when there's a major feature that improves compatibility or a round of fixes that bring games from in-game state to playable state.
Currently enjoying GoW Collection on that emulator, without any issues!

Now I can’t wait for a bit better performance (my cpu is a bit older) it worked fine in some of the middle of the road games I tested, but booting into them (compiling) too forever.

But I really honestly just wanna play Skylanders with all the figures I don’t own.

I have to admit this, they really have done such a great job. It really has come a long way. I am looking forward to it being completed someday.

No, it only means that the game does boot.

I'm glad that they took their time for compatibility so we didn't get another pcsx2 situation
Sorry for my cluelessness but what is the pcsx2 situation you're talking about? I've used it not many times but it didn't look like there was a problem or anything. I'm asking out of curiosity really.

What's weird is that they both have about the same speed in bandwidth but the Comcast one feels laggy like click something and it takes a second to load, the Eero one is just instant lol
