it means "it won't corrupt the system even if abandoned halfway through", someone here mentioned a very professional wording, as the update is like just adding files to the system (like those in "Data Management")... What is that called? Additive? Cumulative? This drives me crazy!

I'm curious to know the original term, as I wasn't even aware of 3DS updates having this property!

One term that is sometimes used in computing to refer to some action that either completes successfully, or maintains previous state (as in, with no possibility of a broken in-between) is atomic. I'm not sure if it applies here, it's just one possible guess.

Incremental, I think you mean?

I doubt that's how it actually works, though. Most likely, the update is downloaded to a different part of the filesystem and the unit is only directed to use that part of the filesystem once the update is confirmed to be complete. I think that's how updates work in other systems.

I think it writes the most critical parts first, so if it gets interrupted, it doesn't matter as much. FlashMe v8 works this way. You get past a certain percentage, and if it fails after that, it's okay to try again.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.
