Nintedo is apparently removing games off of ROM websites as well as the freeshop.

Title of Vid :NINTENDO DMCAing EVERY MAINSTREAM Title from ROM Websites & MH: XX Dissapears
Video: (not mine)

-a rom site- doesnt have Nintendo games to download:

EDIT:
FROM Ziggyhacks
Everyone:
To be clear, Nintendo hasn't removed any games from their servers. This means that FreeShop is still available for every game previously listed unless the FreeShop owners removed a game. Let's not chastise the owner for his small mistake, and keep in mind that he also preemptively apologized.

I noticed this in both the Love and Paradise sites.
Most popular titles are starting to disappear.
The Cool site was the first to remove everything Nintendo related some years ago (2013).

What the fuck are they doing?!
They are fucking up with the preservation of digital media and history as a whole for fuck's sake.
As a Romhacker myself, this is getting in my fucking nerves, as I now have to spend 30+ mins looking for the correct base ROM for my hacks... If I do happen to find them.

I've never really like any direction Nintendo goes. They still keep games that are 3 years old fullprice or close to it. They are very money hungry, and this is just another shitty thing for them to do.

I guess they're finally starting to realize that no one wants to buy 20-year old games for the 15th time, so they're attempting to take down the most popular alternative.

All of these games have been backed up countless times, and much more accurately than most of the copies on most of these sites. They'll still be available to anyone willing to find them.

It"ll just become more of a pain in the ass to dig and find though.

I knew there was something wrong with the nintendo roms disappearing on Friday... They DMCA'd them at a weird time. If I were them, this should've been done years ago.

no matter what they do, they cant touch the enctitlekeys.bin on all of your sd ards, meaning that all the freeshop games we have atm are here to stay forever. The worst they could do is prevent all ways of obtaining a more up to date version of enctitlekeys.bin by shutting down certain websites. there is nothing to worry about.

This sucks.

Should we begin to back up our roms and make a mass MEGA host?
I highly encourage everyone who can do that to do so.
Get as many entire Nintendo console libraries as possible and back them up in a safe place.
Share them everywhere you can.

All of them.
NES/SNES/N64/GC/Wii/GB/GBC/GBA/NDS.
They have gone too far now.

I will not condone this bullshit of a move on the emulation and hacking community.

Doesn't matter, everyone else does what nintendon't.
Well now we're gonna have to protect the history of these games, as Paradise still has a lot of items, I recommend uploading all that you have to a private dropbox, share them as much as possible, and uploading them to https://archive.org/

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

i think only the red mario kart edition phat was v5

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
