The long-awaited Ataribox will be opening for pre-orders on December 14th, 2017! There will be pre-order deals, but they will be "extremely limited," so get ready to keep refreshing your inbox if you want a chance to get one.
What are your thoughts? Are you planning on getting one?

Update: I found an image of *part* of the controller for the Ataribox, you cant tell much (Atari did this on purpose) but it is something...

Edit2: Looks like the controller might be this (ataribox instagram)

I certainly hope not. They were aiming at having some modern games.... right?

Planning to get one just for the collection. Curious about the price, any news on that?

The Ataribox is a new game console by Atari that will supposedly play classic + modern games.

Edit: modern.... Indie titles, that is....

Update- I noticed that I could see a small part of the controller, check the original post for an image.

So is this supposed to compete with Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo?
I think that's their concept.
There are only so many games that you can play with a joystick and 1 button.

Just because people have been waiting a long time doesn't mean that it's good lol. Maybe long-dreaded is better?

Update- if you haven't noticed, I added a link to their indiegogo.
Yes, indigogo.
By the same site that brought you Aido.

No modern game can be played with that controller. It either has to come with a proper controller or else its basically an over-glorified emulator.

It has been said that it is running Linux and that might not be the official controller because if you look at the picture with partial controller it looks a little bit different

Could an official controller that you can get separately so you get the original feel when playing older Atari games.
Any idea on the specs, GPU? CPU? RAM?

    @Xdqwerty, Nice. Which operating system are you installing?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, windows 10 and some linux distro like linux mint
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    dualbooth
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @SylverReZ,
    I also recall my brother downloded a "non bloated" version of windows 11 on his pc

  • impeeza @ impeeza:
    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.

    I think my favorite one was that dancing purple gorilla... I uninstalled that thing from sooo many machine people would be like "Why is my computer so slow?" lol because this thing is using like 30% of your system resources.....

    This one lady... her son kept installing Kazaa... OK no problem the issue is he would download DBZ movies and they where amazing usually like 2-8KB in size lol can't remember how many times I had to format and reinstall windows over his stupidity. I even explained to him about file sizes multiple times...
    Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty: @Psionic Roshambo, bonzibuddy?
