Sorry for coming out of the woodwork; after reading different threads and all, trying to find some answers, I thought it wouldn't hurt to post my own question about it, since I do have some specifics. I knew when I was going to hack my Nintendo Switch, I wasn't going to do anything major, I didn't really care too much for using emulators or theme changes, or always using CFW. I realize now that getting banned is more guaranteed than before.
When I did the jig method, all I ever did was save edits, and to my own surprise, I haven't gotten banned yet since I last did it (Knock on wood). What I'm wondering is if it was because of the method I used, or how discreet I was about it, hence the title of this thread. However, this was my process: Before doing anything at all, I put my Switch into airplane mode, erased all saved WiFi information, to ensure I didn't go into the internet while doing this. Inserted the jig, and booted into Hekate. Per everyone's advice here, I backed up my NAND. The CFW I booted into was Atmosphere, and the only app I had there was Checkpoint. I backed up my saves, exited, then shut my Switch down. Take the Micro SD out, use editors available on here to edit the saves on PC; the edits being your usual suspects, like max items, have maxed out inventory, etc.; nothing too major. Then I boot back into Hekate, then Atmosphere, then Checkpoint, and inject the saves. Once that's done, I shut the Switch off, then turn it back on (So that I can no longer be on Atmosphere CFW), and resume playing with edited save files. So far so good? For the record, the last time I've done this method was way back in late-June to early July. I have since gone back online to this day, with no repercussions, even though I was ready for any ban to happen.
But this is what I'm asking, did anything I do result in my having a low ban risk? I know I'm pressing my luck because as a few members on here mentioned, a ban can take place days, weeks, even months from now, and anything you do involving hacks or mods, is just asking for a ban. So who knows if I come back here tomorrow and say that the sins of my past have finally caught up? But I heard of things that could've saved me, like focusing solely on save edits, or using Atmosphere, which sent error logs to the SD card, rather than the console, which allowed me to avoid being flagged? I guess all I'm asking for is clarification, while sharing my own, brief experience with this. And the possibility of myself doing it again. Would I be safe the second time around, or is that just wishful thinking? 'Cause Nintendo seems to have gotten something together recently in order to ban a whole wave of people in such short time. To the point where any kind of hacking is considered bannable, no matter the severity.
Any who, that's all I got.
