I'm not sure about any semi-recent reviews, but the ED64 is seen as the best.

There are two differences between the $199 X7 and $119 X5.
  • Saves games without Reset
  • RTC (Realtime Clock)
Of those, the saving without reset is the only thing most people would care about. Basically on an X5 when you are done playing you need to reset your N64 for the saves to write to the SDCard. On the X7 this isn't required.

The RTC is only used by the Japanese only N64 version of Animal Crossing. It's an interesting oddity as the Gamecube game stayed very close and didn't change or add a ton of things. But other than that it's possible some homebrew might use it, but for most people, it's a feature they would never touch.

Actually i 'm not sure that ED64 is considered as the best flashcard.
One should have a look at the 64Drive from Marshallh
Anyway, you can find the best price/quality ratio at Everdrive store.

Is there anywhere selling the 64Drive? RetroActive says orders were placed "temporarily" on hold since May 2021.

Their UltraSave could be interesting, but a universal device like the Save the Hero project would do so much more.

Otherwise, the 64Drive's original price is the same as the ED64 X7 and they have the same features such as supporting all games and having USB debugging for development.

If you don't mind skipping N64 Animal Crossing, aren't going to be N64 Development, and are OK restarting the console to keep saves. Then the X5 is 40% of the cost.

The X7 is hands down amazing compared to my old 2.5. Highly recommended.

I would love a 64drive but I can’t find anywhere that stocks them either :(

I recently managed to get a Neo Myth 64 to add to my N64 collection and it’s utter garbage.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
