Best permanent CFW option for a new/unused PSP 3000 at OFW 6.10?

I just got a new/never used kingdom hearts edition Japanese PSP 3000 and it comes with OFW 6.10. I haven't done much with a PSP in over 10 years but I remember being able to put "permanent" CFW on systems with a low enough OFW on it. I see now that there are several methods (including Infinity, which is new to me) and I'm wondering if it would be better to use the older method or just go with that? Infinity is "semi=permanent," which means it has to re-patch itself after every reboot, right?

Sorry for the noob questions; I'm not very knowledgeable about this stuff and there's several different guides on the front page so I wasn't sure which was the definitive option. I'd like to go with an option where I can just "set it and forget it" but I'd also like the most stable, up-to-date option too. I was planning to try playing some stuff online too (like PSO2 with the custom servers) if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I would consider updating your PSP to the latest and installing Infinity permanent CFW with ARK4.

Ah okay, so that's the one most people are using these days? I thought maybe it would lead to faster boot times if you flashed CFW directly on PSP's with old enough OFW (pretty sure that's how I did it back on my old spirited green PSP). But if this essentially does the same thing, I guess it doesn't make a difference. Thanks for the clarification.

A user can install infinity and enjoy either PRO or ME custom firmware without ever having go through the process of re-enabling it after every reboot.

Nice, I guess this is the go-to guide for it? I saw another here https://www.pspunk.com/psp-cfw/ and wasn't sure if one was more up-to-date than the other.

Thanks!

From what I know, you need to have a custom firmware equivalent to your actual official firmware to be able to use it.

If you feel like experimenting safely, I would suggest trying a temporary custom firmware and when you are satisfied with one, you could push further and install it permanently.

This is just what I would do, but go ahead and try what you prefer!

PSPpunk links seems good to me. It's a good reference if you want to use ME or PRO custom firmwares. I never tried Infinity yet since I'm satisfied with PRO.

good luck!

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
