iirc 3ds only need dauth for downloading base game, not for updates. would be nice if someone try if downloading updates get you instaban or not
if that's the case we can limit CDNSP to download updates and get base game NSP elsewhere (converted from XCI, scene release etc)

Can you tell me what the deleted part sais in Pvt?
Sorry, I can't do that even in PMs. You're gonna have to ask someone outside of the website.

However the censored part mentioned that you're gonna have to dump your own certs from now on.
Don't though, you're just gonna get superbanned that way.

This is actually kind of hilarious. Considering how at the beginning everyone was knocking Nintendo for doing the same thing they did with their prior systems. Only to find out that it's different and now more of a headache for pirates. :o

and where do you think those websites got 99% of their nsps?
I never said that they didn't use it. The point is that I didn't use it; therefore, I won't be directly effected by this, especially since I don't pirate on Switch too often.

Yes, it's possible.

Unless you meant without using PC tools, then no.

Perhaps not yet but I have a feeling that before too much longer there will be an easy to use dumper that runs directly from RCM mode and thus is undetectable since it won't make any changes to the system. Which means uploaders will just have to keep an exploitable system unhacked/stock in order to download updates and such.

Ah bugger... Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Now its going to be a royal pain in the ass to keep games updated etc...
Maybe then it's just a matter of not updating the games? They can still launch, AFAIK. Sometimes I miss the pre-PS3 gaming era. You bought a cart or disc, and it was the final version. No updates ever released, except for re-prints, maybe, but no one cared about these. That was the advantage of not having storage built-in the console. Only exception might be the OG XBOX. But I think the tiny hard disk (8GB) was only used for game saves.

Game saves, UPDATES, and DLC. New Rev carts were necessary for some games that had game breaking bugs.

I was wrong about PS2.

This one doesn't make any changes to the system, it's more effort though.

Game saves, UPDATES, and DLC. PS2 had this as well IIRC. New Rev carts were necessary for some games that had game breaking bugs.
PS2 didn't have a hard disk out of the box, unless you installed one yourself for use with HDLoader. About game breaking bugs, this page is a fun article on the subject.

So XCI is the solution now, isn't it?
Maybe they can detect if we are downloading an update for a NSP game we don't own...
So XCI seems to be the safe way

Piracy on the switch was dumb to begin with and even dumber now. I'm all for running backups when feasible but the switch just never have been. Ban = crippled console and to avoid ban you need to basically rip the wifi out of it which sort of defeats the purpose anyway.

not really because switch online is trash and the majority of the good games are mainly offline anyway.

So, as a step away from semantics and fighting over whether or not it's really dead, I pose a question to you guys, mostly a matter of opinion:
What are the ramifications of this on the Switch backup scene? We can get system updates from XCI easily, so that's no problem.

But who really will go and buy games and game updates and dump them from cart/SD? I know that the proverbial "wheel in the sky keeps on turning" but will the availability decrease? Will only the most popular titles be available as .NSP?

I don't ask for any practical reason. Just a thought experiment and I want to hear your opinions.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.
