Game Name:
Duel Masters

Release Date:
2003-08-07 (20 years ago)

Genre:
Card Battle, Card Game, Strategy

Game Info:
Duel Masters is a Card Battle video game published by Takara released on August 7th, 2003 for the GBA.

The reasons for this game not releasing in this states (as well as multiple duel master games for the GBA & PS2 that were never ported) was due to the lack of promotion of the game. For example, Yu-Gi-Oh had started as an manga, had an anime, many video game adaptations of the trading card game for consoles, handheld consoles, PC, and IOS/Android Smart Phones. Duel Masters had some of the these things, but at the end of the day, it was seen as a Yu-Gi-Oh clone and nothing more which I feel is the reason why Duel Masters games like this won't ever be localized: because they can't compete with giants like MAGIC, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, etc.

My reasons for asking for this game to be translated isn't just because of me wanting to play it, but to give this series of TCG a chance to shine again. The reason why I even got into Duel Masters was in fact the TV Show and the card game being something different than all the other popular TCGs during it's time. I wouldve loved to play an actual game That all being said, I appreciate anyone willing to translate this game.

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum. There is a game for the DS that is Harvest Moon DS Cute, and I can't find the ROM in EUR or in the USA but in Spanish. I don't know if it doesn't exist or if I'm looking for it wrong. In case it doesn't exist, is there a tool to translate that ROM?

Game Name:
  • Project Hacker: Kakusei
  • Here
Release Date:
Game Info:
  • Genre: Adventure
  • What it's about: The game features hacker-themed puzzles where the stylus is used for, among other tasks, program repair and password cracking. Project Hacker plays like a first person point and click adventure game outside of these puzzles, similar to the Ace Attorney series.
  • Popularity in Japan: Project Hacker: Kakusei sold 37,000 copies in its launch week.
  • Why I want this translation so badly: 1. I'm crazy for hacker-themed and IT-themed games. 2. I like detective visual novell so much. This game is awesome mix of 1 and 2.
  • Why I don't think this will come out in the West: Hypothetical Reason(s) Nintendo Didn’t Do a US Release: In theory, Project Hacker: Kakusei sounds like a really cool game. Maybe Nintendo thought the hacker portion had a negative connotation associated with it, and so decided localization was out? It could have thought that such a game might promote or encourage illegal behavior. It also didn’t sell well in Japan. (From here)

This is supposed to be a Spanish translation:

Nombre del Juego:
Fecha de lanzamiento:
Informacion del juego:
  • Genero: Falling block puzzle game

I also feel it would benefit being in English as without it you would have to find out the objectives without any help, which some people might not be able to do.

My Offering:
  • Again, the game needs a specific DS accessory to work properly, but fortunately windwakr on GitHub has made a build of DeSmuME that emulates this functionality, which can be found here.
  • I don't know any Japanese myself, but I'm happy to fix any spelling mistakes or change a few text lines if need be to feel more natural. I can also supply some translated graphics, e.g. I have remade the logo of the game in English a while back.
  • 1703930894437.png
  • I can also test out the multiplayer mode in some way, as it requires having two separate original DS models, with two copies of the game, and two slide controllers. I only have one retail copy of the game on hand, but I should be able to pair my DS with the specific DeSmuME build to hopefully circumvent this.

Game Name:
  • Prince of Tennis 2005: Crystal Drive
  • LZ10 compression
Release Date:
Game Info:
  • Genre: Sports
  • What it's about: It is a tennis game where you select a character from any school (Seishun Academy, Rikkai Dai Fuzoku Chuu, Hyotei Academy, Yamabuki Junior High etc.) and then select an opponent. Then you battle each other out while playing a tennis match.
  • Popularity in Japan: Very popular anime series in Japan.
  • Why I want this translation so badly: The one and only reason is I ENGLISH DUBBED THIS ENTIRE GAME. I started the project about a year ago and finished this past September. All 50+ characters in game, including the shop owner in menu, and the gallery voice prompts. Everything. Fully dubbed to the Crunchyroll cast. In order to lavish in this victory id like the main menu UI translated to English so the title truly stands out as a localized title!

Video:

*Would love to have posted my DUBBED COMPILATION VIDS, but I haven't released them officially yet. Was waiting for the last OVA series to be dubbed to implement an even greater version of my favorite character's signature move. Haha*

My Offering:

  • I can assist with any testing and file reconstructing.
  • My knowledge of the game extends as far as the audio modding. I spent many months going in and out of the game file's directory.
  • No Japanese proficiency
  • Willing to commission the work, but no idea how difficult the task will even be. The game is very English friendly as is, so this project might not be the lengthiest of undertakings. If you take a look at the attached photos, you can see what needs translating. Characters names in the select screen... mode titles, etc. The layout during gameplay is already for the most part entirely in English so I'm very content in that department. It's just the main menu and its various sub directories (Options, Gallery, Character Select etc.) that I want translated in order to fully immerse myself in game.

Game Name:
  • Angelique Duet for the DS
Release Date:
Game Info:
  • Genre: Strategy, Dating Sim.
  • What it's about: The queen needs a new heir to take over, so she summons 2 of the most capable girls for the crown, Rosalia de Catargena - your rival, or Angelique Limoges, the main character. You also have 8 prince's that are your love interests to help you on your journey. Helping the villages and sabotaging your rival into taking their land. There's also fortune telling, zodiacs, and compatibility mechanics to improve your relationships with others. You can get the queen ending, a romantic ending, or the new best friends ending with Rosalia. In this version, Duet, you now have the option as playing as the rival. Which opens up dialogue choices of playing as the villainess and having to try to make amends with the love interests and the main character. This version also has night dates, a cooking system, a gifting system, a cafe to eat with your love interests, completely rehauled graphics, and a multiplayer to visit other players rooms.
  • Popularity in Japan: Incredibly hardcore fanbase.
  • Why I want this translation so badly: This is the first otome game ever. The fact it still isn't translated is a crime. While I would prefer to translate the Playstation or Saturn version, the DS is the only one I've managed to get the graphics and able to inject in English text. The game is also very fun, and I would like to share how great this game is to many others!
Video:

My Offering:
  • I have already managed to put the ability to put English text in the game (Thanks Normatt!). The only thing I need help with is script dumping and script injecting. I can also remove the graphic assets and edit them myself (Photoshop Certified.)
  • The game is already 90% done in English. Thanks to RACapowski, I have also contacted them and they said they are more than willing to be a translator for this game once we find a Programmer/Hacker.
  • I am proficient in Japanese and have worked in projects such as Idolm@ster One for all, Idolm@ster SP, and Tokimeki Memorial Girls Side 4.
  • I am willing to commission someone to figure out the pointers and do the script dumping for this project.
  • I made a quick test dummy logo for replacing graphics and it works.
  • If you're willing to help out or redirect me with someone who can help with script dumping or interested in translating with us once we get a script dumper/injecter let me know!

@Slade_Wind This is really cool! Have you tried posting a Help Wanted ad on Romhacking.net to see if you can find a hacker that way?

Im really dying to get this translated. You know any other sites? I dont want to wait endlessly on dead servers and sites for no responses.

Hell, ill even pay someone to record translating 1 or 2 menu titles and stuff then do the rest myself!

I think no response is pretty common unfortunately. It's not that people don't want to help, but that those who have the skills to help are normally busy with several other projects. That said, I think you're doing the right thing by continuing to ask around!

If it's not that much text, you can try pasting it into the #japanese channel at the FTI Discord. They tend to be really good if it's just quick things like menu text :) There's also a Discord server for the Romhacking.net forums which may or may not come in handy.

On a side note, have you been able to figure out how to edit the names in the menus? I know there was a suggestion that it could be compressed text, but based on your screenshots, I do think that those are probably images. I tried to have a look in the game's .narc files since that's a pretty common DS filetype that often contains graphics, but hacking is not my strong suit so I wasn't able to figure it out.

  • Why I want this translation so badly: It looks so amazing and the gameplay is quite nice as well. Furthermore, I just love games where you can raise/battle with monsters.
  • Why I don't think this will come out in the West: It's a DS game which was released in 2010. I think it's safe to say it won't come to the west.

My Offering:

  • My eternal gratitude.
  • I can check for spelling and grammatical errors (English).
I really hope someone picks this gem up!

Game is being remastered (probably remade tbh) for modern consoles and PC under the name "WiZmans World Re:Try".

Game Name:
  • Houkago Shounen (After-school Boy)

Release Date:
  • January 31, 2008 / Konami

Game info:
  • Genre: RPG, mankind's comfiest RPG ever to be exact. It is sublime, laid-back, and delightful.
  • What it's about: This game is targeted directly at gamers' sense of nostalgia. The adventure game, set in 1975, casts the player as a young elementary student one month before he moves away, doing the best he can to have as much fun and spend as much time as possible with friends before saying goodbye. It features a town to explore, with childhood haunts like parks and candy shops, as well as a school (obviously) and a shrine. Time with friends is passed playing minigames.
  • Popularity in Japan: This kind of game is quite niche. Honestly, I don't know how popular it is in Japan..
  • Why I want this translation so badly: Is your life full of hustlin' and bustlin' and it feels like a circus turd show? Tired of "big-guy" problems and want a reset? Do you wish you could go back in time and revisit that summer vacation you had as a child again? Times where you just don't care about anything and you just go through the day having fun? Unfortunately, this is my case. I believe some of our aging gamers out there are experiencing the same thing. This game would let us just stand by the moment and cherish the childhood we've always longed for.
  • Why I don't think this will come out in the West: Probably because the settings are quite Japan-centric and it has been a decade since its release.

My offering:
  • Moral support and unwavering gratitude.

Was working on this a long time ago, but hit a roadblock and has been on hiatus since.

The problems I ran into were inserting text into the script files (which can be done, but wasn't straightforward and required lots of manual work), no English support - this would have to be hacked in, and finally, no texture extraction nor insertion.

This is due to the game using some (custom?) engine with unknown files.

Game looks interesting. I'll try poking at it one of these days.

The biggest issue I foresee with it, however, is actually getting the game to run on an emulator with decent debugging tools (DeSmuMe is not where it's at lol), and in general - file and script, and English font support.

As an interesting side note, the hardware is documented on GBATEK (albeit with the wrong name lol)
https://problemkaputt.de/gbatek.htm#dscartsliderwithrumble

Since the Agilent ADNS-2030 laser is no longer being produced nor available (except AliExpress - but that's a wild gamble), nor are many of the other ICs used, a hardware "clone" would require the use of an FPGA/CPLD and modern components.

DS games are not an easy task compared to some other systems.

I appreciate you taking the time to look, but no I wasnt able too. Its crazy and frustrating cause I swear, or assume anyway, this'd be a very fast endeavor. Someone even suggested no hex editomh would be required. Those moving menu fonts could be stored as image banners.

I just WISH I KNEW HOW TO OPEN AND MOD THEM. Or where the one I need even are.

I want to mod all menu mode banners, character names, shop dialogue (very brief. Like 4-6 boxes total id wager), and gallery names. Thats IT.

Game Name:
  • Gokujou! Mecha Mote Iinchou: MM My Best Friend!

Release Date:
  • Nov 25, 2010

Game Info:
  • Genre: Life Sim
  • What it's about: You play as a self insert for the manga Gokujou Mecha Mote Iinchou
  • Is it popular in Japan? Well, no, not especially.
  • Why I want this translation so badly: Me and my friends love the art style, and it looks ridiculously cute, fun, and girly. A little girl I babysit loves watching me play girly fan-translated ds games, and she always asks me to get more.
  • What makes me so sure this won't be released outside of Japan? It came out in 2010, the manga was never translated.
