The platinum gift for 2012 was a set of clear plastic Platinum Playing cards. The designs on the cards are gold on one side and platinum on the other side. I think they're pretty neat looking. The cards are also available on the Japanese Club Nintendo site and I managed to get one set each from CN USA and Japan!
Now, the cards are the same but there is a world of difference in the packaging. The USA one is pretty cheap with just some thin cardboard packaging.
However, the Japanese one is much more polished and professional looking. Inside the cardboard package, the cards are enclosed in a hard plastic case. There also seems to be some kind of instruction manual. I don't know what it is for sure since I can't read Japanese.
