We have Hulu, and thats it (excluding NicoNico). The Switch has a kickstand, a crisp 720p touch screen, and its simply a tablet. Apps on the system like Youtube and Netflix would be perfect for the system, but i'm starting to think that Nintendo doesn't really care about apps anymore. Do you think we will ever see any other apps? And when do you think they could release?

Here in Germany you don't even have Hulu!

I personally watch Netflix and Youtube on an iPad... For me it's only a nice to have. But I don't need it.

Could be complicated with the "Kids Mode"? So that the kids cannot watch unlimited Netflix or Youtube?! Maybe thats the reason?

Oh boy...hombrew Netflix.

...Or I could just pull out my phone. Guess when everything has become so open, homebrew doesn't hold as much appeal any more.
It may not matter much to the people like us who have multiple avenues for online entertainment consumption, but for the child or adult who doesn't, any available route is a well accepted one.

Not to mention that Hulu on the Switch still needs a controller. What a bunch of bullshit! You can't even use the touch screen to control it. It kinda sucks.

Eh, I don't think you'll find many people that own a Switch but don't own a smartphone or TV or chromecast or PC or tablet or whatever else. I'm sure there will be more interesting HB apps, but Netflix will probably be coming to OFW at some point anyway.

Well, you already replied your own question.
Hulu and NicoNico are apps, bad apps, but still apps.
So, "do you think the switch will ever get apps?", as explained by you on the OP, -yes, it already did-

PS: Also, I expect to see Netflix and Crunchyroll there, perhaps by June.

The problem is families like mine that have a game console and TV, but haven't bought into the whole "streaming dongle" thing yet

Still it would be nice to watch stuff on a bigger screen when out and about, and I don't feel like carrying multiple tablets with me or a Switch + laptop.

Netflix have said there are no plans to bring it to Switch at the moment, though that doesn't mean it won't happen in the future (and it most likely will)
As for the others, Nintendo supposedly have been in talks with different providers about bringing their services to Switch, so it seems like something that is likely to happen, we just have to wait for them to develop the app, and then Nintendo needs to OK it for release. YouTube is inevitable, they are simply too big for it not to be a thing.
Crunchyroll could happen, it was released on Wii U after all and that's a much less popular console.
I could see Twitch being released for Switch, gaming related streams on a gaming console makes a lot of sense after all, and we could see some sort of integration with the video capture feature for streaming content to Twitch directly from the console (although it will probably take a while before we see a Twitch app if they plan to integrate this feature the first time around, since a feature like that has to be tightly integrated into the system which makes it more complicated and means Nintendo are gonna have to have a part in the development)
Anything more than that I wouldn't count on.

I'm sure it will get apps eventually. I'm just sure it will take time because such apps load data from the internet which can be rerouted with a DNS to use exploits. Remember tubehax from the 3DS?

The only reason Nintendo is holding web-based apps is to avoid exploits. Netflix already have their Switch app ready, but Ninty needs to approve it (i.e.: test it to see if it's hack-proof). Since they're focusing solely on games for their first year, I really doubt they're in any kind of hurry.
Also, in a marketing perspective, what makes the Switch stand out of other smart devices in the market is that it's focused on games. If the general public starts perceiving the Swith as a generic tablet-thing, it could hurt the sales.

That was a rumor, Netflix have since said they have no current plans to bring it to Switch.
