Whatever

While flashcards are probably illegal, why does it matter? It's just a site and GBATemp has to get their money somehwere

They did for the SNES Satellaview, but that's not quite the same thing.

@OP & Everyone: GBATemp started as a piracy site for GBA roms.
Nah, the Super Famicom Satellaview was nothing like a flash cart, it was developed by Nintendo. It was like DS Download play. You would download little demos or minigames on your Super Famicom

About Datel's powersaves. They aren't doing anything illegal as far as I know. They sell a third party device, it's not even using the 3DS in this case. Some magic way they can edit the savefiles and send them back. For all we know, they might actually have a real Nintendo key that they pay royalties or something for.

The modern version yes. The old models plugged into the console.

This entire site lingers in a grey area of legality. We don't provide anything illegal, but we obviously endorse illegal activity such as piracy. Flashcarts aren't directly illegal themselves, but they are obviously not completely legal either and their usage is obviously not just for personal backups.

We most certainly do not condone or endorse it (even the rules say so!), but we are ok with it being freely discussed. There is a difference ;)

Sure, it doesn't mean it stopped happening. That game is for two players.
Also, user was implaying illegitimacy by state laws.
Stores selling them doesn't care about state laws nor n's paperwork.
Never did I say it did.

You work for big N?
Who/What is big N ?
Isn't it so that Homebrew has a .3ds and .3ds is used for Gateway, isn't it ?
I read that there was in the early times the only way to downgrade/cfw a Gateway Card or .nds Flashcard....

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
