Dove lecturing you about sexism in video games

I just have to present this, though.

Let's say you have an avatar that is representative of actual human physiology, because you are that type of special individual who NEEDS to feel visually represented.

I think back to Grand Theft Auto - San Andreas. I think that game kind of handled it perfectly.

You could turn CJ into whatever you wanted to. You could have a buff tank, or a skinny toothpick. You could have a cuddly chubby bear wearing heart boxers and an eyepatch, or a suave Loc'd out G with all the drip.

It was all based on your behavior in the game, and your decisions. If you took CJ to Cluckin' Bell and fed him six family buckets of chicken, he would get fat. His stamina would drop. He would get tired more quickly. He wouldn't be able to jump over things he COULD clear if he were healthier.

You get where I am going with this. If you instead send CJ to the gym every day and eat salads, you would have a much higher natural level of stamina that would make the entire game easier for you, but you had to make sure that you ate regularly and engaged in regular exercise.

I wonder how the same butthurt gamer chicks would feel if their avatar had the same negative stats as people in actual, real life do, compared to healthy, athletic people. I mean, sure. Let's do that.

Go ahead, "Sapphire". Your avatar looks JUST like you. And has your stamina, too. Same strength level as you have, grunting when you pick up a case of Pepsi.

Good luck on your quest. Pack a lunch. We know you're packing two. Gotta eat one on the way.

I mean, you chose to play life, itself, on Hard Mode, because you don't like portion control and exercise. If you want to feel represented, let's really go for it. Maybe it will make sense to you, then.

Going to be honest, I don't really have a horse in this race either way beyond choosing not to play a game if I dislike the main character enough to affect my decision. (And this isn't a weight/body type thing either. I'm waiting on getting "Super Dungeon Maker" until I can see what the new character skin is, because I'm not a fan of the chicken character they've currently got)

Just wanted to say, the GTA mechanic you explained sounds absolutely brilliant. I don't play GTA, so I didn't know that was a thing, but I totally love the idea, and I've gotta steal it for an Unreal game I'm (slowly) piecing together.

San Andreas stands alone as one of the best and most immersive sandbox games of all time. They nailed everything. If you are a 90's kid, this is your game, in every way.

It goes beyond just combat. Women and pedestrians in the game interact with you differently based on how fat/muscular you are, just like in real life. Some chicks won't date you if you aren't plump enough. Some won't talk to you if you aren't buff.

Ahead of the curve, this game was. In many ways. Then again, I remember being on GameFAQs before the game even came out, and there was a straight up uproar over CJ being black.

There were actually people butthurt that they had to play a whole game as a black man. I am not kidding. How stupid can you BE?

Again. You have no problem spending hundreds of hours committing animal cruelty to turtles as a fat Italian plumber. But, being a black dude salts your taint?

If we cared about "realism", BotW and TotK's weapons and shields would last much longer than they actually do.

Also Assassin's Creed Odyssey would show "realistic" ancient Greece, and not depict women in the nation's (and Sparta's) military, mercenary list, and political realm. Same with people of African descent - there were very few dark-skinned people in ancient Greece, let alone Sparta.

You know what the irony is? That Greek boomers, journos and normies whined about Disney's Hercules "being nothing like the actual story" (somehow they had no problem when Disney did the same with other classic stories from other countries) and Frank Miller's 300 "being historically inaccurate" (despite the fact that the basic story was pretty much the same even with its fantasy elements) but SOMEHOW they highly praised and shilled really hard Assassin's Creed Odyssey "for being realistic". Assassin's Creed Odyssey even brags about doing history revisionism because actual history is "problematic".

Also for some fucking reason many non-Greeks (mostly Americans) love equaling tanned people (like in Medditerarean countries like Greece) with dark skinned people (like the Middle Asia - African ones), therefore their "ancient Greeks were black" propaganda.

BY THE WAY! If people actually read history instead of parroting what they read at non-Greek msm, then they would know that homosexuals had same treatment with slaves in ancient Greece like not having the right for voting. Then again they don't teach proper history at Greek schools either.

We already have femboys at Japanese video games for a long time. Problem is that the latest years they turn femboys into transgenders at localizations like they did with Bridget at Guilty Gear.

Haha, I was joking - I couldn't care less who or what they put in games. I rarely ever play them and TBH when I was growing up and the state of the art games at the time were pacman, frogger, Centipede.....which are hardly what you call realistic.

I was grewing up with the 8-bits. So I just missed those personally. Even though I remember seeing some of them at gas stations.

The first computer game I ever play was Pong. The first home game consoles looked like this:

You had two wired controllers - which was just a knob you turned left or right to move the paddle. This was state of the Art stuff in it's day TBH. The first handheld games machines we played were nothing more than LCD displays and looked like this:

One things for sure - the batteries on those lasted for a very long time compared to todays handheld consoles.

If we'd had seen a game like you have in todays generation, back in those days we'd all have be blown away and it would be on the first page of the newspapers (remember them) every day.

I think some people are triggered by it, because they see it as "pro-fat propaganda" and see it as a company telling people that being fat is a good thing. When it reality, it's not a good thing. It's like telling people getting wasted all the time is a good thing.

Personally, I think the whole thing is funny. It makes me think of when Bluey, a cartoon, had to censor a scale, because it offended fat viewers.

Having more people in video games that don't fit the norm, is much better than the fat shaming here, that doesn't actually encourage anyone. That can, in fact, make things worse.

natural selection is a real thing my friend, if my fat shaming makes a person eat to the point they kill themselves, please proceed. this world runs on people that adapt, innovate, steal, manipulate or just survive in general, you don't have to be a genius for it, but if you don't have at least the bare minimum to survive, then tough luck pal, the shadow realm it is.
