So my dpad was stuck going to the left. I knew that this was because I had blown into the SD card slot, which is right below the dpad, and so some gunk must've gotten in there. I hit the dpad a few times, and it started going up and left. And yes, it's not the circle pad. So I disassembled my 3ds (original) using the instructions, and sure enough, there was some gunk around the dpad contacts. So I cleaned them and got the black gunk off, reassembled my 3ds. However, when I turn it back on, it still goes up and to the right. Can someone please tell me what to do?

Thanks in advance.

the contact pads for the d-pad is a sticker remove it and clean underneath, once you have done that put it back on so it lines up with the contacts on the board. use extra sticky tape if u have too. I

Okay, so initial tests are positive. I will reassemble more, and get all the ribbon cables hooked up and retest.

Okay, so now I tried it, and it still is going up and right. I cleaned both sides of the sticker and the contacts on the motherboard.

There are little brown marks (rust?) on the underside of the sticker in all of the spots.

Ok, so i reassembled it without the sticker or dpad on. it will be still for 20ish seconds, and then will go crazy again. Please help.

yes tinning it flowing a little solder on it, you could probably fetch it off with some IPA or other cleaning agent for circuit boards.

You mean clean it off? (Sorry, xenophobic American)

Also, if I did re tin the contacts on the motherboard, then wouldn't they raise up enough to touch the contacts on the sticker without being pushed?

You can solder over them and this will burn of the oxidised parts then remove the solder south some copper solder braid, or scrub the crap off with some cleaner, either way will give you the same result.

So if I understand, I have to solder over the contacts, then scrape it off, not reheating it and wipeing. (would steel wool work?) Mech, you mentioned cleaner, I live out in the country side, and I don't speak much German (I live there), so what kind of cleaner would you suggest? If I've got this all straight, let me know, so that I can borrow my friend's soldering iron and take this mobo to task. Thank you rip-it-up and Mech for all of your help thus far, I really appreciate it.

no you just want to clean the pads and you can do this by adding solder to it and getting some braid to suck the solder back off, no scraping at all... you will damage the pads.

youtube solder braid.

Ok, but my problem occurs even when the pads are not in the contacts, I took them off, so just the bare motherboard was showing through the dpad slot, and powered it up. I wait like 20-30 seconds, and it goes on it's own. Also, tried it with the dpad reassembled, the other buttons are unresponsive.

If it's still using the Dpad without the actual button on it then there is little point messing around with the buttons, is the actual board under it damaged?

There's no visible damage. Out of frustration, before I disassembled it, I hit the dpad a few times hard, but I didn't think that that would actually damage the motherboard.
