Hi everyone. First time here. Can you please give me some advice? I have a stock 3ds XL, without any CFW or this kind of stuff. He is updated and i want to keep his system untouched like it is.
Yesterday I bought a R4i Gold Pro flashcard, i still waiting it arrives, bought on internet. My goal is only play NDS Roms and some GBA wich is running OK, 'cause the GBARunner2 seems to me very buggy with a lot of games. The main goal is NDS games. I know these R4i Gold Pro has that crap of "Time Bomb" thing, and I wish to install a custom kernel on it to prevent future problems...

The question is: The Twilight++ Menu is the best solution for my case? The only thing i have to do is follow the tutorial for flashcards users in the first page of this topic or do i need to follow any other steps?

Another Question: Is Twilight++ based on YSMenu or they are separate things? Which is better for my case?

Final question: Do a Updated version of GBARunner2 comes with the Twilight++ Menu package of the first page link, or do i need to update the GBARunner2 to the newer version manually (don't know how to do this too)?
Thank you guys for your attention, i hope i was clear enough, my english is not the best lol. Cheers!

I have the same card. For all of the talk about time bombs, the standard kernel is actually quite good and a superior solution to YSMenu. I regularly get white screens / freezes / etc. when running YSMenu but have zero issues using the standard kernel.

The big issue with using Twilightmenu on the R4i Gold Pro is that you will be using bootstrap to run your games rather than your kernel. Bootstrap is great, but still has some compatibility and performance issues. Also, if you are using bootstrap to run your games and you have a 3DS, then you might as well install CFW and then install Twilightmenu on the SD card and take advantage of things like overclocking, etc.

WOW! Thank you man, i didn't know that. I will keep the standard kernel. Where do I download one? And it still have the time bomb issue?

You can download the kernel from r4isdhc.com. I think the latest kernel update pushes the timebomb date out to 2024. Also, don’t let the name scare you. It doesn’t ruin your flashcart once the timebomb goes off. You just cannot use it until you adjust the system date on the 3DS or download an updated kernel.

No risk to your 3DS. No risk to the card either. If the manufacturer goes out of business and stops pushing out updates, you’ll need to switch over at that point to YSMenu or TWiLightMenu. Or just roll back the date on your 3DS in the Date/Time settings. But I find it’s not worth worrying to much about what might or might not happen to a $15 flashcart in 4+ years time. :)

Also, we are way off topic at this point. If you have further questions you should probably post them to the R4 forum here.

Try setting Sound/Mic frequency to 32khz.
If that doesn't fix it, then the fix is unknown.
ok i will try that thanks.

Are there any plans to make you be able to play games with multiplayer from the sd card slot with a person who has the physical game card.

I feel like this is a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find an answer so far. I'm running Luma on a N2DSXL, and I installed TWiLight Menu++ via the manual method of copying files to my SD card and using FBI to install both CIA files. TWM++ is working, and I can play GB/GBA/SNES/DS games just fine, but the main menu is missing. When I start TWM++, it goes directly to the file browsing menu that lets me pick files from my SD card. Since the main menu is missing, I apparently can't access the TWM++ settings. I should also note TWM++ never asked me to specify which DS model I'm using, which I thought was supposed to happen the first time you start it. What did I do wrong?

The DS model is automatically determined, and to get to TWLMenu++ Settings, press SELECT, and touch the DS icon.

Yep, it was indeed a dumb question. I guess you made plenty of updates since most of the tutorials were written. Thank you!

As a side note, I have to say the GBARunner2 mode is really nice. It looks as crisp as mGBA running at 1x, but it's much bigger and actually runs at full speed. :D

So how safe is TWM++ to use with a 128GB SD card now (with the cache setting turned off if that's still relevant)? I'd prefer not to corrupt my SD card.
