"Enhanced" Final Fantasy IX Available Now On PS4

ff 9.JPG

During today's PlayStation Press Conference in Japan, Square Enix revealed that the beloved and timeless classic, FINAL FANTASY IX, is available digitally for the PlayStation 4 now.

Originally released in 2000, FINAL FANTASY IX for the PlayStation 4 gives players the chance to relive a classic tale of love, magic and self-discovery with various enhancements including high-definition movies and character models, trophy support, auto-save functionality and optional game boosters including high-speed mode and no encounter mode.

It seems like it is the same version of the game released on PC and smartphones last year.

FINAL FANTASY IX is available digitally now for the PS4 for £16.99/ €20.99. Those who purchase the digital edition will also receive an original custom theme designed by Toshiyuki Itahana and eight key character avatars.

To celebrate the release, the game will be available for a discounted price of £13.59 / €16.79 for PlayStation Plus members until 26th September.

Do I want to replay Final Fantasy 9... I assume this is only a graphics and load speed tweak.

Might bust out the original actually to test my new uber gaming cabinet.

And I'm sure it retains all the broken sound effects Silicon Studios managed to eff up in the Steam port too! Unless Square Enix actually handled the port themselves?

Edit: Oh, it's the Steam version, with all the spell sound effects botched to high heaven. They didn't even get the enemy death sound effects at all.

Do you know of any pc mods that add them back in? Another reason to stick with the PC version :3

"High Speed Mode"

AKA the game will actually be playable mode? I loved it the first time I played it (yeah, I cried at the end, just like all of you did), but any subsequent attempts to replay have been for naught. Battles are wayyyy too slow.

I will grab this eventually as opposed to right away, despite it being my favorite Final Fantasy # hands down. I have only played it once and I had an absolutely wonderful time with it. I am not so sure if I want to play it again and ruin my original perfect experience, even if I did miss entire swathes of the game (the chocobo forest stuff what).
Other reasons I will wait include things like
-I already have FFXII that I have never finished before and I am only about halfway though that at the moment.
-Destiny 2 is sucking up all my time
-I have FF7 that I would like to play over again on PS4 before I play 9.

How bad do the backgrounds look behind the sprites?

this is a good game, much better than Final Fantasy VIII imo. I'd get it if I weren't staying on 4.07 on the ps4. wait, I'll get it for pc like one of the members above and play it with my white wii u pro controller (best controller I've ever used).

Be sure to install the sound effect mod, the company who ported it did a bad job with the sound effect conversion.

I'd ask how you polish a turd, but Myth Busters showed the world already.
You can make it shiny but it's still a piece of crap. FF1 has a better story and characters. 9 is easily the worst in the franchise.

I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
