EVO 2022 lineup revealed, will not feature any Super Smash Bros. games

The annual fighting game tournament EVO has unveiled its lineup for this year's event. You can expect to see ever-popular games such as Street Fighter V: Championship Edition, Skullgirls: 2nd Encore, and Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate, alongside smaller franchises like Granblue Fantasy Versus and Melty Blood: Type Lumina. The full lineup is as follows:

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
Guilty Gear: Strive
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
Tekken 7
The King of Fighters XV
Melty Blood: Type Lumina
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Granblue Fantasy Versus
Skullgirls 2nd Encore

Noticeably missing from EVO 2022's lineup is any Super Smash Bros. game. This is because Nintendo chose to withdraw any and all Smash Bros. titles from EVO going forward, ending a partnership that had lasted since 2007.

EVO 2022 will take place from August 5-7, and will be hosted at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

I get that Pikachu beating up Kazuya is good fun with friends, but competitive Smash is just... a bizarre idea.
it's a game where people punch other people. it was bound to get competitive at some point.
It's not any more bizzare than competitive gran turismo, or competitive mario party....

Here,I corrected that for you.
That party game has no place among those Fighting game.

Nothing value was lost, that game is not a fighting game to begin with.
Dude, if the main focus of the game is beating up other players...... it's a fighting game. this party game shit is legitimately immature and is just elitism from asshole FGC elitists. not every fighting game has to be 2 dudes sparring in front of each other

Who decided that? You?
Of course it is. Especially with items disabled (what is always the case in tournaments).
EVO is a the fighting game PRO tournament, all fighting games are welcome except those are NOT. THE AUTHORITY HAS SPOKEN: Smash is not included is fair enough my point.

There's much more to it why it was excluded. People above your post have even written few reasons why.
"Smash is not a fighting game" is not one of the reasons. It is. Just because mechanics are different from Street Fighter doesn't make it less of a fighting game. Only some shitty random stage events and those pure luck items set it apart but both can be deactivated thus making it a competitive fighting game that's as worthy as every other game.

and who made you the arbiter of what is a fighting game and what isnt
it's a weird fighting game though ... personally I am not a big fan of smash bros and doesn't consider it a fighting game.
same as mario strikers; I don't consider it a sports/football game.
but it's a personal opinion.
