Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

mig.png

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

I'm just a humble man selling artwork of my favorite video games, that each come with a certificate of authenticity. Nothing shady here; just an artist trying to make it to the end of the day
Just tryna show off my Nintendo covers on Steam. What's up with that?

Time to start a gbatemp store for selling certs!

The xbox 360 keyvault days are back!

When PS3 was still a big scene of JB, you could buy console ids from ebay to circumvent bans. Eventually people would get banned again because those sellers were selling the console ids to multiple people.

360 had a similar problem. People where also making shady remote RGH tools(RTE) and infected alternative xbox live steath servers that had KV stealers within them...that would get sold multiple times over

It's just shady though, to originally say the dumper is included, process a bunch of peoples pre-orders, then say the dumper is not included, and will be sold separetly, at a later date. And keep it the same price, no discount even.

Definitely misleading. There is little to no possibility that this could be used for the "intended" purpose.

I am thinking the real reason is legal related. Selling them separately gives them a better argument should a lawsuit arise and that’s if they’re in a country that gives a damn. If they were really in China or Russia then they won’t care, so I’m guessing they’re not but pretending to be.

Respectfully anyone that really thought that they would get both a dumper and functioning flashcart for just $70 deserve to be disappointed

Thats way to hopeful thinking. They’d be essentially selling either the cart or dumper at a loss to be able to hit that price point

I doubt these are cheap to make PCB assembly is complicated and expensive even at bulk

Nintendo probably has a countermeasure already from what I could tell, laying dormant waiting for it to happen. To the people who have pre-ordered a Mig Switch, you might be disappointed once you get the card and not the dumper. But I suppose most people here have a modded Switch already and could dump their games without it. Without a dumper and no modded Switch, the card would be nothing but laying in a drawer for years to come.

I admit I'm not up on Switch technical ins-n-outs, but if the MIG can only play game dumps made with the MIG Dumper (pretty sure I've read that somewhere along the way), then how would even having a modded Switch facilitate generating MIG-compatible game dumps?

Mig can play game dumps made with the fabled migdumper, or nxdumptool. In this case, so far, only a modded switch can facilitate the Mig.

Of course none of us has a Mig, and this is hypothetical.

You insert your cartridge into a modded Switch and use a homebrew app called NxDumpTool, to get a 1:1 copy of that cartridge onto a pc, then copy those files to the Mig flashcart.

Well anyone could still get games and just get banned unless they have a switch that could dump their games. Then again chances are most preorders were from switch v2 users no cfw or chip, so definitely just a ban. Brings me back to that video now, I remember saying why didn’t they show us the system settings to show that the switch had no cfw. Now you could say they were using cfw during that video, hopefully I’m wrong.

Well, currently you don't need to, since the dumper has currently been delayed.

yeah, they deceived everyone with the page, the dumper is not ready yet.
I wouldn’t say deceived the “official” MIG website never once stated the two where bundled together

Like usual sellers and gbatemp made their own assumptions and ran with them.

Plus the pricing never even made sense for it to be a bundle in the first place? $70 for two pieces of custom hardware? Y’all are fucking crazy
