Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

mig.png

A few days after the monumental reveal of a work-in-progress flashcart being made for the Nintendo Switch, more information has been made available. The previously unnamed flashcart is set to be called "Mig Switch", and the initial Twitter user that unveiled the Mig Switch's existence, After Time X, managed to get in contact with the team behind it all. According to them, they were offered a review unit of the Mig Switch, but turned it down, as the After Time X team fears legal repercussions from dealing with "backup loader" hardware.

Another interesting tidbit is that existing dumps of Switch games will NOT be compatible with the Mig Switch, and backups will need to be repacked to function with the flashcart. Games played with the flashcart can be played online, as well.

The Mig Switch currently has a website, where it is seeking distributors to work together with in order to sell initial limited quantities of the Mig Switch device, with the first units to be delivered sometime in January. The team claims that full availability is expected around March/April 2024. It'll come with the Mig Switch card, and the Mig Switch Dumper, with the latter of which allowing you to back up your games using NXdumpTool.

So if Switch games need to be repacked, what does this mean for homebrew? Will this support homebrew?
if it does, then someone will probably make a homebrew to read regular rom from the microsd, right? :tpi:

well it says it can only be used with your own dumps
unless some other anon moush scene group wre to releaee tool to conver existing dumps to useable format aftet he fact.
totally beyond thier knowledge of course
They say that but I think you could just download any game and it will work, they just say to use your own game, I guess because if they really tested this, their claim is you won’t get banned.if that’s the case I guess their can be a small benefit to this. Just make sure no one in your home is playing the same game online while your online.

That's true, but how are these devices leaving the country with all the sanctions and crap? This thing is going to be EXPENSIVE AF

US economy is doing extremely well with strong job growth, inflation is now under the average for the past 10 years, and the stock market has been roaring the past few weeks. My investments went from red to black with good profits after being in the negative for over a year.

Seems the economy has made almost a total 180 from covid times.
It's about time. I started my 401k when I thought the market was at its lowest, thinking "it can only go up from here!" How wrong I was about that! 😂 Hopefully it continues trending upwards from now on.

I think he's saying he hopes the switch hardware will be cheaper by the time this comes out.

Yeah but you won't be able to pir- I mean "backup" eShop games or dlc.

This is an interesting novelty but eh, the ejecting makes it a pass for me. I would have gotten it maybe with a better solution
The other best solution is to have it use like a multi-cart ala GTA 3 Collection or the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster where you all get icons of each game.

I think and hope that they’re not saying everything this can do yet, if it’s just for switch games it’s pointless to me. These days I just use my switch for retroarch. Show me hbmenu somehow using a games titleid since I think I read in the other thread by someone that the cart slot is using something else for firmware or something, can’t remember but that kind of took away the idea that this uses something like atmosphere in the cart, which takes away the hbmenu being accessed from photo album.
That just means that you are not the target market for this device since you already have a mod-able switch.

So how would a flashcard fit in the cartridge slot? The cartridge is as thin as an SD card, the flashcard would have to be pretty small for it to fit together with an micro sd card.
The same thing an SD Card fits on a Vita.

I think this has to be like $30 for sure now, just saying that because I just remembered of the cart switcher on amazon. If anyone has this, in a way it might be similar to taking the cart and putting it back in. I know it’s too soon to ask this but whoever already has this an gets this flash cart, let everyone know if switching between games with this device changes what the game is just by switching games back and forth, this way you don’t have to keep ejecting the cart to change the game.

I've never seen this before, is interesting. Proves the games can be changed without manually swapping atleast.

Wow interesting, I wonder if you bought 2 of these carts and used this to switch between them, if that would trigger each to move to the next game.

Why the fuck are they hashtaging Nintendo in the post? Do they WANT to ring the goddamm dinner bell? Are they snitching on the down low?

No way Nintendo wasn’t on the case on this thing immediately. Maybe announcing it at this time gave them the biggest chance Nintendo detectives would be on vacation.

I understand duplicate certificates but let’s say someone purchases a bunch of games during a b2g1 sale, dumps them, and returns them… not only are they risking a ban, but the individual that buys the games second hand would also risk a ban? Sounds like I only want to buy new games moving forward. I’m sure it’s a small risk, but it’s there.

Yep, or even used carts from major sellers like Gamestop for example.
