The fact they're keeping the name doesn't mean a thing, the staff will still have to report to their bosses at GAME, meaning they will be pushing items you don't want and warranties at you at any opportunity.

Psst, not ALL the staff are fuckwits. Read MVC, Game are always highly rated. It just won game specialist of the year award

Maybe you're not, but I've been in over 10 different stores and I've never seen a non-fuckwit on their shift. As or the 'award', read everyone's responses in this thread (i.e. everyone prefers Gamestation).

I used to LOVE my local Gamestation. It always excites me when I walk past the window and see something like a Neo Geo console or Virtual Boy but recently it's been getting bare. I hated GAME for their policy of using red marker on second hand games but one day, I walked into one in Aberdeen... and saw Steel Battalion with controller.... for £80. I snapped it up... and lugged it all the way home. Then it occured to me I'll never be able to find space to lay it out. I hope the retro section still remains.
There was a Virtual Boy in the one I go to only last week with Wario Land, was about £70 dunno if that was cheap or expensive, I didnt care so I ran to a machine to get some cash and when I came back it was gone

Yet most people here never actually BUY games.

I know that we have customers that return week after week to get advice on games, their systems etc.

We actively try to promote the DS over the PSP (without being pushy of course). And we don't give a frig about selling gamecare (extended warranties) because we suck at it =D

We're also going to try and arrange some form of DS meeting up time for people to play together. Could be a nightmare if too many people turn up though.

when companies gobble eachother up and then also put the non-chain game stores out of business, everything seems to migrate to ebay eventually. I miss funcoland in the US, we'll never see anything that good again. Reminded me of fun places to shop during the 1980's..friendly service and a large selection of products. now that gamestop owns eb and funcoland, ebay and import sites like playasia are my only friends.

Little: it's okay, not everyone in here who doesn't like GAME much thinks that because of the staff. I look at what the store sells and how they sell it. The world's in a sorry state when I have to ask a cashier if GAME actually sell consoles on their own without games bundled with them (all GAME had on the shelf were DS Lite + 4 game bundles, which don't come cheap). From the near-RRP prices, bundles and (from what other people have said) rubbish trade-in prices, GAME seem to be a profit-oriented monster chain set up to get as much money as possible out of the unsuspecting public who don't do their research. Which is why they annoy the people who do look around at the alternatives.

Truth is the only people who really love GAME work for them, or have done in the past. Whether the staff discount has anything to do with that or not I couldn't say
wink.gif
.

Still it could be worse: DS games in Virgin Megastore = ouch ouch ouch (Animal Crossing for £35 anyone?
ohmy.gif
) And I got my DS mittens from GAME and they're awesome

As for how much the staff know it depends on who you see, you can't say all the staff are thick in the same way you can't say they're all experts. Retail stores attract a mixture of workers from schoolkids looking to make some weekend money to enthusiasts so the fact that you could wind up being served by a total idiot is true of all retail stores and is thus not a valid reason to hate Game as opposed to other stores.

The last time I went in gamestation I was looking for a wii. This was before xmas in the UK. He looked at me trying not to laugh and said we are getting them in March. MARCH I mean WTF. GAME were getting a few wiis in ever week. What you had to do to get one, was keep ringing them up. When you found out they were getting a delivery you had to wait in store until the delivery arrived. It was also one per customer.

I was lucky enough to order my wii online at comet. They had them in stock for about 20 minutes. GAME usually have wiis online, but they are all expensive bundles. GAME do better deals with the new consoles than gamestation do. Gamestation is better though for anything else.

gamestation are not good all the time, when i went to trade in some DS games today they offered me only £4 cash for 3 DS games, and these games were decent tiles too, metroid prime hunters, sonic rush and project rub, i laughed in their faces XD also their gamecube section and DS section is very expensive, compared to the price they offer for trade in it's laughable.

When my Gamestation opened in the first week, they were accepting anything. They even accepted my bootleg GBA games which netted me £60 considering I only paid £20 for them in Hong Kong.

Sadly they wised up and don't accept anything like that anymore and when they used to sell old and rare games for cheap, they're now selling them according to their rarity (Neo Geo console = £200). Shows they know rare things when they see one. They say they'll even buy Radiant Silvergun even though they refuse Japanese games.

Oh yeah, I once found Castlevania: SOTN with all the extras like music CD and mini manga for £20 but when I went back the following month to see if they'll accept it, they said no.

I remember when GAME brought Electronics Botique.

Actually EB bought GAME, but there were more GAME stores so they just rebranded the EB stores.

I hope this means my local Gamestation won't close as its in Blockbuster, who bought Gamestation a few years back.
Actually (and don't quote me on this) but I heard EB chose to rebrand as GAME because in quite a few towns/cities that had both GAME and EB stores, sales were higher at GAME than EB. Also GAME is obviously a lot more synonymous with videogames than "Electronic Boutique" or "EB".

To chip in regarding GAME and Gamestation... I never really saw it as what store was the best... like GAME were better for new releases and Gamestation were better for pre-owned titles, so I went to both. My local GAME used to have a permenant 10-30% off prices for many new titles (yes!), they stocked a great range of games, have a crazy good return policy, and although they don't do it now GAME used to have some cool trade in offers towards new titles e.g. trade in any 4 used games and get a new one for 99p.

Gamestation on the other hand has many more preowned titles than new ones and they have some pretty good prices and deals on like the 2 for £10 and 4 for £20 offers. Last summer I spent hundreds of pounds buying up rare stuff like Disgaea for £5-10 a pop and flogging it on ebay for £30 or whatever the going rate was at the time. It's also cool that they stock video game merchandise and retro stuff even if some of the retro stuff is horribly overpriced (e.g. £60 for Secret of Mana PAL with the most beat up box I've ever seen).

Heh, I picked that up at a car boot for £2 last summer... it was missing the art book though.
