If you like indie games and want to play something casual i would say Spelunky is a good pick. It's challenging and only $1,50 on Steam.
Otherwise i would also recommend Stardew valley, it's like Harvest Moon and i played dozens of hours without getting bored.

No one suggesting Warcraft 2/3 or Starcraft? :'(
In a way @DayVeeBoi did: his list mentions them (btw...every game I know on that list is at least decent, so it might be a list solely of good games). It's just that the price is wrong: starcraft became free not too long ago. :P

And on that note: the original C&C games (C&C tiberium dawn, red alert, tiberian sun and red alert 2) should still play very well. The later ones might as well, but it depends on the setup.

Yeah I don't follow low end gaming subreddit closely so I can only suggest the list, and to read through the subreddit. They're fairly active so I see a new game suggestion pop up on my feed every couple days. On that same side note, I love Command and Conquer Red Alert, it was the first game of the Genre that I had played but whenever I try I can't seem to get into it when I play any other (I guess they are called) Real Time Strategy games.

Rivals of Aether is pretty great and runs on anything. Terraria is great too, although I do get lots of issues on high resolutions. If you want something 3D, the first Killing Floor isn't bad - it ran on a potato Intel Pentium with Intel HD for me, at least. Also Plants vs. Zombies 1. As of right now, it's free on Origin's On the House, so you can download it and play through it. I got it to run on my grandma's microwave (just kidding, but that game is not demanding at all).

Hmmm perhaps the following games might spark some interest (most also work on low pc's)
-Total annihilation
-dune 2 or dune 2000
-8 bit armies games

And on the old but great game list:
-age of empires
-rise of nations

Actually Age of Empires has been on my list for a while now, I play mostly handhelds as of late and I came across one not tool long ago that I enjoyed but it just wasn't enough to keep me around long enough to get very far in it. I think it was Tom Clancy's EndWar IIRC. I haven't played any in a long time, but I think probably those earlier Sid Meire's games would be good to list too, like those older Civilization games. Thanks for the recommendations, Dune is another one I plan on checking out at some point, but I'll keep the rest in mind as well

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
