I finally got my GDR-8162B v0018 drive hooked up to an up-to-date Windows 10 computer after being packed away for a while and I am running into a strange issue with dumping Wii and GC games.

when I put a Wii or GameCube disc into my drive it spins up then slows down to a crawl which is normal but then the drive drops off of Windows then I get a device has malfunctioned error. Only a power cycle of the drive fixes this issue.

I have not had this issue ever even on Windows 10 and it is very strange.

Sometimes I can get the drive to not error out if I put the disc in the drive while my computer is rebooting. This causes Windows to literally hang in the boot logo for a whole minute then finally I can log in then dump the game. If I switch out the disc the same thing happens to me.

yes I know I can use a Wii to dump discs, and I have several Wii systems. The point was that I was building a consoleless setup for ripping games and movies.

I have the GDR-8162B, BenQ VAD6038, Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive, Libredrive UHD friendly drive, and a UHD official Libredrive currently connected so I don’t know if any of those could be causing issues but I don’t know. I even uninstalled AnyDVD HD in case it’s lower filter driver was causing any issues.

Here is the drive info for the drive. for other software I have MakeMKV and Virtual CloneDrive installed but neither of those use upper or lower filters so it should be impossible for them to mess with the drive.

Your Drive is correct, also the Firmware.

Which Type of IDE Connection did you have please ?
- Directly (maybe try to lower the Transfer Mode for the IDE Port in the BIOS,but I am not sure,Windows 10 "takes over".)
- with an Adapter (if yes, this is maybe the Issue)

Which RAWDUMP Version did you have tried please ?

Thank you.:)

Have you tried using friidump with a linux distro with the drive?
When I dumped my gamecube games on windows, inserting the disc at first shouldn't have triggered a reaction by the system at all as the contents can't be read.
I used my drive directly on an old Windows XP computer that still had IDE ports and in combination with several adapters like this one and this one on my Windows 10 computer and friidump always worked without problems.
They are both variations of cheap Chinese adapters that you probably can find in your country as well, but with a different branding.
If the drive still disconnects after changing the way it is connected to the system it could be that the drive is damaged or the power supply has problems with its molex connector.
The drive I bought was already rusty on the outside but thankfully still worked, maybe yours has seen even more wear and tear.
