Guys I might be ancient but wanna know what happened? I read somewhere it says Gateway added a *brick code* to destory 3DSes which use fake Gateway cards... Is it true? Is this why Gateway stopped updating because people were angry with that?

They released updates after that, they just stopped one day... Weeeeeell, they never actually said they stopped. Technically, there's still an update right around the corner lol

I personally haven't heard anything about this, but that sounds pretty crazy. I think they'd be in heaps of trouble if they bricked customers 3DS's

That fiasco occurred in 2014 and really didn't affect that many users (mainly a handful of clone customers and an even smaller batch of legit users). Still, they were (rightfully) vilified for it in the 3ds community pretty hard. But because so few were affected and Gateway continued to innovate (breaking 9.2 and new3ds wide open), they weathered the storm and stayed relevant for another year or so. The advent of free open source cfw (rxtools etc.), and a steady stream of new entrypoints ( <=10.7 downgrading, a9lh, safehax, b9s, ntrboot) accelerated their downfall after that. Recently speaking, a terrible a9lh implementation and firmware support ending at 11.2 has also eroded their base.

Right-o! Their website and help email are gateway's. It's like they aren't even trying to hide it. Either Gateway and Sky3DS teamed up, or Gateway bought Sky3DS out.

Honestly even if they do make a comeback by 12.0, if they don't add some fucking firmware protection already they just need to blow up their office.

We actually know what happened to them. They started a new project and chances are that they've dropped support for the Gateway3DS. The only person who seems to be relaying any information from them is garyopa. Which it seems like everything he's announced has not happened.

You know what's worse? It's already been suggested that the Gateway Stargate team is going to miss their September deadline. I fail to understand why people support this cart or that team at this point. I know they used to be a lot of things, but look them now. They can't even meet the deadline for their new cart and even if they did, it's so late into the month that it's just sad. Worst of all, they couldn't even provide updates for the users. What happened to the "Come back here in the days to come for more news and exciting features updates,"? It's been over a month now and all they've posted was a poorly edited video.
I feel so bad for those users who still think they are going to see an update.

He seems to have once again back peddled his previous statements, so basically he just flat lied before. Honestly I don't trust Gary, I think he's full of crap, and the fact that he lied about Stargate not being the Gateway team only furthers that belief. I am also sure that we won't see an October release for the GW CFW because it's extremely obvious that he's only backing them from shady reasons. He's covered them multiple times in the past and thus far nothing he's said has happened. The only way someone could still be backing a team like that would be if they were paying him to do so.
