Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been announced for the Oculus Quest 2

gtadddddsddd.png

The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Definitive Edition won't be the only play to experience in a modern form. Oculus announced a VR spin on an old classic during its Facebook Connect event, revealing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for the Oculus Quest 2. We got nothing more than the confirmation that the game exists, and that "it's a project many years in the making". We've seen games ported to VR before, with the recent release of Resident Evil 4 VR for the Oculus Quest 2 as well. What are your thoughts? Are you excited to see Grand Theft Auto in VR, or are you wary of how this open world game will play in virtual reality?

I am very surprised Rockstar didn't use this as another excuse to re-release GTA V.

I'm actually eager to see how San Andreas is going to look like in VR.
That would mean they'd have to downgrade GTA V and port it to ARM. GTA V on Android when then?

Care to elaborate?
Definitive edition is just another mobile port rerelease, this VR port will probably the exact same.

One can slap on as many fancy shaders and mods as one wants but it'll always be a broken mess.

I'm assuming they'll be using the remake for this, and that means the remakes will have a first person mode?

If it wasn't in the mobile port then no.

It wasn’t specified in the OP, but this is meant to be its own VR remake
Where did you see that? It's no where on the oculus blog post, just that there's going to be a "built-for-VR version" for the Quest 2. I don't see why they wouldn't use the new remakes as a base, the new engine and graphics would certainly help out.

Re4 looks shit in vr, and it has had parts of the game cut out.

So facebook wants to brag about been the best vr experience, yet it cant even get a retro game to run like the proper game but in vr.

While they like to dis the psvr, we had re7 that pisses over that pathetic excuse they want to pass retroevil 4 as.

And whats the odds, gta sa will have content stripped from it too.

Nani??.. So it'll be 1st person view only then (would be cool if it's on the remasters too)?
I see they're just testing the waters here with San Andreas, if it meets there expectations in terms of sales, they'll most likely start working on porting GTAV if not already.

I heard it was pretty good. How long did you play it before you came to that conclusion?

Well, in GTA SA's defense RE4 does get some praise even though it lacks in the graphics department. R* also had some experience from porting LA Noire to VR. But something as huge as San Andreas might need a lot of tweaking to be satisfying on a VR platform. I can see myself doing some of the activities in VR just for the heck of it (maxing out stats at the gym, buying clothes, doing the dancing and lowrider minigames, spraying tags) yet I somehow got a feeling that R* will find a way to screw this up and make one of most detailed games in history one of the worst experiences. Please let me be wrong.

GTA V(R) will be a PSVR2 launch title. I'd bet money on it.

They'd have to drastically downgrade V to work on the Quest 2. San Andreas on the other hand is better suited.

Excited to see how this pans out but I'm more excited for the definitive edition to be honest, even as a big VR fan

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds

It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
