I looked it up and couldn’t find much info on it but I’m wondering if it’s causing the disc to constantly be read as empty (swapped the dvd drive to a working one and installed unleashed x). See pics, one of the blue mod chip wires goes into 1 of the ide pins. Not sure if it only plays burned discs due to the chip or if the drive is simply dead.
Thoughts?

Identifying the motherboard can help in these matters as different mod chips had different requirements

Can't see the video chip here from those angles though.

Lattice semiconductor are a massive chip maker that specialise in programmable chips so in and of itself it is not going to do much, however someone might remember a give mod chip brand did use those chips.

Sadly most of my old school sources are gone these days and it is pretty much only https://www.xbox-hq.com/html/ that is still up.
Quite a bit of Eurasia appears to have got into the internet archive which is nice https://web.archive.org/web/20190120122503/http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php/XboxInfo
Beyond that I was never much into hardmods on the original xbox (other than easy to lock hard drives then softmods did it all, and TSOP handled most of the rest) so I also lack that frame of reference. Quick scan of an image search says it might be an XBOX Aladdin Advance but I would not know for certain ( http://www.okokchina.com/Search-Product/aladdin/ lists a few). Fairly decent bet it is one of the Aladdin range or possible a clone (no idea if they happened for this chip).

Hello.:)

It looks like the Aladdin Super Live Chip.
I am pretty sure an Aladdin one.

While I can't rule such things out then broken xbox drives are usually more the fault of dust getting in there, lasers degrading or laser outright dying -- the original xbox is now some 17 years old and was built down a price when it was manufactured.
Also you should note that certain xbox drives only work with certain types of disc (though you might be able to set book type). https://www.se7ensins.com/forums/threads/dvd-cd-r-brands-compatible-with-the-xbox.40297/ is not as nice as some of the later stuff we had but a start.
