As the title says, my PS3 always turns itself off when i turn it on, making a beep sound and a blinking red light appears (instead of the usual green light).

After that, i have to press the power button 2 times only to stop the red blinking light (but the light keeps red), and me and my brother have discovered that before the light turns red, it turns yellow for about half a second (and I know what the yellow light means :().

I manage to keep the console on by removing the inserted game, but it's starting to get pretty annoying.
So my question is: Is my PS3 dying? Can I fix it or I have to destroy my PS3?:nayps3:

My PS3 is a FAT PS3 with latest OFW.

TL;DR: Read the title!!

It is most likely dying. If you found the yellow light it is over. PHATs are known for YLOD most often. You can fix it for temporary time, but in the end you will have to buy a new PS3. I recommend a slim. If you temporarily fix it you can have about 6 months more time with it. In that 6 months you can save up for a new PS3. Eventually the method you use will not work.
There is no other way to get a YLOD other than overheating. It could be possible your PS3 system is overheating for a disc being in the drive as it causes the fans to get faster. If it overheated once then there is no way to permanently fix it.

Yellow light of death, your ps3 is gone :(

get someone to repair it! it's a common problem.
needs reball, (the solder between the chips need to be replaced)
get someone who does this for a living or has experience, it will cost you about 80 bucks...
mine dyed that way too recently...

Oh... time to buy another PS3 then:( (But this time i'll install a CFW)
Do you think it could be because of a bad ventilation or dust? (mine is covered by a lot of dust, haven't cleaned it in AGES)

if you want to repair it don't keep it working, unplug it from the plug until you get it to someone who can reball it.
continue to do it, will eventually kill it, however you may choose to get a new one, in that case yeah, turn it on, and backup your saves and what you want to transfer to the new console...

If you get the YLOD once its over. I said you can temporarily fix it. Or buy a repair, but there is no point as it will overheat again it being a PHAT. Also if you install CFW don't be a douche bag online please.

it's a common problem on the first models fat ps3, dust helps to kill it like every electronic device...

If you try to get a PS3 with CFW or 3.55 already on it then it will be more expensive. If you can afford to use more money then go ahead. There are some cons I should warn you of though.

1. If you have PSN games and try to visit PSN store you are asking for a ban.
2. If you use a clean unmodded account on your OFW and you use it on your CFW you can't use it on your PS4 as the chances of getting banned from PS4 could be worrying.
3. CFW can easily overheat as well with no proper fan control. (Even then the risk of overheating on a SLIM is still higher than OFW risk. Don't even try CFW on a PHAT. The YLOD happens too quickly.)
4. You could have to spend extra money on CIDs to unban yourself if you plan on modding a lot and pirating. (Banning is usually uncommon, but my friend mods/pirates all the time and gets CID banned a lot. I myself don't mod/pirate at all which is why I have had my CID for 2 years.)

There are some pros too that you already know about though. Good luck on your search! (BTW here is a link to a thread if your current method stops working. Yes the oven method is an actual method.)

it will not be that much expensier... but IMHO an already hacked ps3 is better...
you maybe pay more than a non hacked but in the long run the extra 20 bucks will be worth...
i mean, i paid 150 euros for my ps3 + 6-8 games, and a bunch of accessories.. and this was last year...
i had seen slim models non hacked with a generic football game for 120...

a non hacked, you will waste time and money... you not only need to pay a buck for a flasher, but it's shipping.. the materials to solder it.. the time it takes.. and you can fuck it up..
or, pay the work to someone to do it+shipping.. and i don't feelç confortable with a console like a ps3 being thrown away at postal service...

Cool I am trying to talk to OP. I was 12 when I flashed my PS3. I am not bragging it just proves my point if you put your mind to it you can do anything. Don't respond to this please.

Sorry to hear that man, yeah definitely sounds like YLOD, I have been encountering a lot of those lately (I kinda fix them for friends and whatnot). I would love to help, but chances are your not AZ bound.

Edit: Yeah, looks like your from Spain, sorry man I would help if I could.

Sorry it was late and I was sleeping :P.
I'm also 100% sure it's dying because it's starting to break my poor PS1 games (WIP3OUT crashes randomly, GTA2 has no sound at all, Dino crisis' voices are quiet af...) and only happens on PS3 (Tested on both PSone and PS2, all games work flawlessly).:nayps3:
EDIT: Just noticed you were talking to another user, I feel really dumb:rofl:

Don't worry, there's a place near I live where they repair any console for a cheap price

do not let them reflow the board. that only makes the ylod come back faster each time its done. there are reball services on ebay and other websites that fix the problem as long as you have never reflowed it.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Also if you install CFW don't be a douche bag online please.
Don't worry, I don't play online that much and I am no douche bag in online play (I hate trolls, DESTROY THEM ALL!!)
