Game Name: Warship gunner 2: portable
Developer/Publisher: Koei
Release: 2009 November 15th
Genre: "Vehicle Simulation", Action/Strategy

Does it have lots of text?
The vast majority of the game's text is menus and the a fairly large tech-tree, while the game also boasts three "storylines" the plot text is fairly minimalistic in comparison to the UI elements and tech tree

Why I don't think this will come out in the West?
There was an english release of the game on PS2 after wich the PSP version came out 2-3 years later as an after thought to have SOME presence on the PSP besides the fact that the game was released 7 years ago and Koei hasn't in 7 years made a single refference as to them even remembering they had that franchise

What is it about?
The gameplay, though referred to as "Vehicle Simulation" on wikipedia is anything but that, the game works in two main phases, battles and a interlude between missions during wich one can modify seafaring warships he currently owns or create entirely new ships wich can be hand-crafted for specific purposes and roles by picking parts and grafting them onto a hull as desired, during thoses same interludes one is also able to play back missions already finished and head to the R&D departement where one may spend currency earned by completing missions to obtain new parts to craft ships with, on the other hand Battles, though quite tame in the first few missions, very quickly ramp up in intensity, though the ships begin with almost historically accurate stats and abilities theses quickly are abandonned for more absurd stats to achive battles that are quite frankly frenetic and ludicrous such as ships achieving speeds within the 80 knots area, wielding weaponry that ranges from true and theoric WW2 weaponry to vertical launch missiles, lasers and alien weaponry, all this in battles that very quickly escalate in intensity and eventually pits you up against bosses wich become more and more insane as you go along....

Popularity in Japan:

considering that I cannot find ANY report of this game's popularity nor anything relating to it nowadays, I'd say this game has been forgotten years ago in japan

Why I think it needs to be translated?
Put bluntly, the PCSX2 option isn't viable, it lags like hell, is buggy and butchers just about everything it can, its to the point just looking at the game will give you headaches
PLUS the PSP version comes with a R&D UI wich shows what are the steps to go down a research tree wich ACTUALLY IS A HUGE DEAL as the original did not meaning you had to GUESS wich parts/blueprints you needed in order to unlock more researches, even a walkthrough won't help at this point as you need to research things in a specific order meaning you couldn't JUST skip skip stuff you didn't have yet, it AT LEAST tells you what you need in order to keep going down the research trees

What I can do to help:
Absolutely nothing, I am not a translator whatsoever, however seeing the game already had a english version on PS2, texts could be obtained from it to port over to the PSP version wich could potentially make things faster....

Someone needs to translate this game, such unique game on PSP. Tons fun (absurd ship-to-ship fights), especially making ships (recreating real life ones and stupidly ridiculous one). I can sorta read Japanese but I'm more confident on menu translations (and maybe tutorials, if that helps) because figuring how to make ships for the first time is hell

177475-Akiba's_Trip_Plus_(Japan)-1.jpg

Game Name:
Akiba's Trip Plus
Developer/Publisher: Acquire (creators of tenchu, shinobido and way of the samurai)
Release:
was released in Japan in 2012
Genre: Beat em up/RPG

Does it have lots of text?

Pretty much, is like the yakuza games, text heavy

Why I don't think this will come out in the West?

This is the extended edition of a game that come out in 2011, neither version was localized, plus, is 2015, no publisher gives a shit about the psp anymore
Besides that, there was a sequel that was localized for Ps vita, Ps3 and Ps4,that had some success, and i'm sure there would be plenty of people interested in playing this prequel

What is it about?

For what i understood, you're a young guy in a trip on a Akihabara, hunting vampires, the catch is, this vampires can walk on daylight, and they look just like any other person!, so, you have to identify them by beating them asses, and RIPING THEIR GOD DAMN CLOTHES OFF!!! (sadly, not only to women, but men too T_T)
The clothes protect the vampires from the sun you see (SCIENCE BIATCH!)
Is an "open world" beat em up in japan, think of it as a Yakuza game, but more silly and perverted :P

Popularity in Japan:

I imagined it had a decent popularity since they made an extended edition one year later after the original and a sequel 2 years after that

Why i think it needs to be translated ?
Is a freakin awesome game! is hilarious, the combat is very entertaining, japan is always interesting to visit and absorb, and theres plenty to do in Akihabara

What I can do to help:
I cant help you translate because i dont know japanesse or programing for shit! BUT, i can promote the project in every gaming/anime facebook group, google +, forum, youtube video, etc, that i can find, to get you the maximum amount of translators out there...
I did that with the God eater 2 translation project, and the project seemed to have advanced a lot!

Game Name: Frontier Gate Boost+ (フロンティアゲート ブーストプラス)
Developer/Publisher: tri-Ace / KONAMI
Release: 17 March 2013
Genre: Turn-based RPG

Does it have lots of text?
Not quite if you compare it with other RPGs. But this game provide the protagonist with fifteen partners and their story as well.

Why I don't think this will come out in the West?
Doesn't seem quite popular in the west, cuz never make it

What is it about?
Tale of a new hero, for short.
You create your own character, roaming through the stronghold (base), take quests to making some progress on storyline. Pick your partner (one per run), there are fifteen of them and each of them has their own story (intersting, isn't it? Some required to complete other's storyline to get them as partner. Kinda like Monster Hunter games, but turn-based verse. Not an ordinary turn-based since you can link-up your attack with your partner to make a badass combination attack. This game also have craft, upgrade, and remodel features, for armor they'd be headgear, body, hands, legs. Pick your favorable weapon to your heart desire since this game has a lot of arsenal of weapon. You can even add up elemntal attribute to your weapon attack, some can be purchased on certain district on stronghold.
And that graphics, is quite good actually.

Popularity in Japan:
Kind of. but never make it to the west unfortunately.

It has a lot of Text
Why I don't think this will come out in the West?

What is it about?
Kenka Bancho 4: Ichinen Sensou ("The 1 Year War", which is an ironic Gundam reference) is a PSP action/brawler game developed by Spike for the PlayStation Portable. It tells the story of Hayami Yuta, a first year student at Konan High School, a school filled with delinquent banchos, which are essentially delinquents. The game blends beat 'em up gameplay along with minigames such as a dating element in which you can pursue one of three female students.

Unwanted requests, Continued
We are aware of the existence of (fortunately rare/out-of-print by now) Japan-exclusive UMD Video releases for the PSP containing animated softcore porn that may be offensively creepy pedophile/deviant POS, or so bad it's hilarious depending on your personal tastes.
Sony hasn't been the first console maker that was so desperate to reverse the fortune of a struggling platform to the point of allowing porn outright. Sega and their Saturn, in a fit of brilliance, had pretty objectionable content too (Acclaim-published lolicon paper-rock-scissors "game" rewarding players with ... just don't google it)
However:
1/It's not exactly gaming-relevant
2/Regardless, you WON'T find what you want here in this site.
3/It's against GBATemp's TOS to feature "adult material"/copyrighted content. You'd be mocked, humiliated and banned (rightfully so, even).

tl;dr: Don't ask for translations for PSP porn here (please)

Older Consoles
PSP can, thanks to homebrew, emulate a LOT of older systems.
If you know of a game for those older systems that's Japan-only/unreleased in English, you don't ask for it here, since this is a PSP games thread, aka stuff released exclusively for the PSP after 2004.

Meaning: No translation requests for these systems:
NES/Famicom, SNES, Game Boy (Color), GBA, N64, PC-Engine, Master System, Megadrive, Saturn, Amiga, X68000, Wonderswan...
Also no PS2, GC, Xbox, X360, PS3, Wii, PS4, Xbone, Wii U, DS, 3DS...

PS1 translation requests are ALLOWED, provided you do a proper interesting request and the game actually needs Japanese knowledge to be finished at all.

If you don't post your request in the way detailed below, don't post your request here.

It's been noticed that for the Tenchu japan-only PSP game named Ninja Katsugeki: Tenchu Kurenai Portable (and very likely Ninja Katsugeki: Tenchu San Portable too as it is the same game and menu system as Kurenai), the japanese text for the ingame and the menus aren't actually text but are textures.

So for someone that is able to replace textures in the game , either by using some texture replacement on the fly program, or using the PPSSPP emulator own texture replacer feature,, one can translate both games without file hacking/patching .

Tenchu San is the psp port of Tenchu : Wrath of Heaven and Tenchu Kurenai being the port of Tenchu : Fatal Shadow , so for those having the games on PS2, the translations exist in there for a basis if it can help.

Game Name: Durarara 3-way standoff
Developer/Publisher: Kadokawa Shoten and published by ASCII Media Works
Release: was released in Japan in 2010
Genre: visual novel/RPG

Does it have lots of text?

Yes because it's a visual novel

Why I don't think this will come out in the West?

it was released 5 years ago , and it has a sequel on the vita which is yet to be localized

What is it about?

Mikado Ryūgamine, a young boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city moves to Ikebukuro to attend Raira Academy with his childhood friend Masaomi Kida, who he has not seen since he was young. After the two meet at the train station, they set out at night to the streets of Ikebukuro. Masaomi warns Mikado about people he doesn't want to cross in the city, such as the violent and superhumanly strong man Shizuo Heiwajima, the information broker Izaya Orihara, and the mysterious gang known as "The Dollars." After running into some of the side characters, Mikado sees a local legend called the "Black Rider", who rides around Ikebukuro on a black bike that occasionally neighs like a horse, and who is rumored to have no head under her helmet. The "Black Rider" is Celty Sturluson, an Irish dullahan who is in Ikebukuro looking for her stolen head. The narrative follows all of the characters equally, showing how their lives intersect and creating a greater plot line from what each character knows about a common incident
( WIKIPEDIA )

Popularity in Japan:

the 3-way standoff series is really popular in japan since it came from a famous anime , it got the sequel released on the vita

Why i think it needs to be translated ?

its a sequel to the anime and manga , and has a new character who is going to be introduced during the game , its also a great visual novel and is playable instead of just reading all the time , there are a lot of secrets behind the story that might be in this game , but unfortunately its all japanese.

What I can do to help:

well not much really , i know how to speak some japanese so i can help with listening , but not reading or writing , i can help you with some english too , but i don't know anything about programming or translating , that's other than my gratitude for you guys and everyone working on it !

I'm sorry if I'm bumping a dead thread and I apoligise for my inconvinence to your day/night... has this game been translated already?? I would love to see if this game works on the raspberry pi 3... unlike persona 3 portable which crashes on the first night hour in the school... really disappointed...

I do hope this game gets a translation.. the game play is similar to the monster hunter series but this game offers a different feel to it, just looking at the game play makes you want to hack and slash those mobs in game... but from what i heard (read online) that this game is pretty hard to crack... but im still hoping someone will be able to get this game translated...

They were both released in NA for the PS2 just like Way of the Samurai so I don't think it should be too hard since the english text is already there. Does anyone know how hard it was to port the text from Way of the Samurai 1&2 into Samurai Dou Portable 1&2? Maybe the same method could be used if its not too difficult. Also, is akatranslations on this forum or still active? He made the Dou portable Translations using the PS2 version as a script so maybe he could help with this. I'm a complete noob so I'm afraid I wont be of much help but I thought maybe there might be someone with real talent who perhaps didn't know about these dope ass psp games.

Game Name: Growlanser
Developer/Publisher: Career Soft, Atlus
Release: November 25, 1999 (Playstation), 2001 (Windows), May 14, 2009 (PSP)
Genre: TRPG

Does it have lots of text?
Yes, like all games in the series this game has much text, however there is an english script of the ps1 content in Growlanser Realm.

Why I don't think this will come out in the West?
The last release of this game was the 2009 version of the PSP and since then Atlus didn't give a word about releasing the game in the west.

What is it about?
Carmaine is a young man living in Rosaria, the capital of the kingdom of Rolandia. Rolandia's palace magician, Lady Sandra, had taken him in as a young orphan and raised him. Once he reaches his majority, Sandra allows him to leave the city, accompanied by her fairy-like homunculus servant, Tipi. Events soon transpire to lead Carmaine far beyond the gates of Rosaria...

In this world, magical energy called Growshu, fills the air and people called Growsians can potentially wield magic like in ancient times. Carmaine's younger sister Louise is one such Growsian. Winged people called Featherians also exist, though they live in seclusion from humans. Long ago though, humans and featherians had to cooperate to save their world.

In the course of Carmaine's journeys, he becomes an officer for the King of Rolandia. This leads into the central plot of the game, which focuses on the intrigues and conflicts between the nations of Rolandia, Burnstein, and Ranzack, the forces driving these conflicts forward, and Carmaine's connection to it all.

Popularity in Japan:
The game is popular in Japan anda was given 83 out of 100 by RPGFan.

Why I think it needs to be translated?
The game story is pretty good and being an rpg with lots of text, it is important to us players to understand it while we are playing (I had to read about the story to understand it), also the game is said the be one of the best in the series.

What I can do to help:
Not much I can do, I don't know nothing about scripting and all, I apologize in advance.

Game Name: Boku no Natsuyasumi 4

Developer/Publisher: Millenium Kitchen / Sony Computer Entertainment

Release Date:
July 2, 2009 (PSP)

Genre: RPG, mankind's comfiest RPG ever to be exact. It is sublime, laid-back, and delightful.

Does it have lots of text?
Minimal to moderate.

Why I don't think this will come out in the West? Probably because the settings are quite Japan-centric and it has been almost a decade since its release.

What it's about?
You, the main character, spends his summer vacation in a coastal village in Japan, 1985. You got 30 days, do as much or as little as you want. You can spend it collecting bugs, beetle fighting, swimming, fishing, morning exercises, and family meals, playing a Taiko drum, challenging other children to duels with your mechanical toys, a beetle circus, and several table top games. It's all up to you. There's no merit in doing a lot or in doing nothing at all.

Popularity in Japan:
This kind of game is quite niche. Honestly, I don't know how popular it is in Japan but having at least 4 titles under its belt, I'd say it got quite a following.

It's lovely that the opening of the game features an 80's JPOP,

Why I think it needs to be translated? Is your life full of hustlin' and bustlin' and it feels like a circus turd show? Tired of "big-guy" problems and want a reset? Do you wish you could go back in time and revisit that summer vacation you had as a child again? Times where you just don't care about anything and you just go through the day having fun? Unfortunately, this is my case. I believe some of our aging gamers out there are experiencing the same thing. This game would let us just stand by the moment and cherish the childhood we've always longed for. By the end of the game, I look forward to having all my nostalgic angst be healed.

What I can do to help? Moral support and unwavering gratitude.

Game Name: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (Full Translation)

Developer/Publisher: Capcom

Release Date: December 1, 2010 (PSP)

Genre: Action RPG.

Does it have lots of text? Yes, but most of it have been translated already. Only need to fill-in the tutorials and some NPC stuff, etc. to make it fully translated.

Why I don't think this will come out in the West? This game is pretty much identical to Monster Hunter 3G on 3DS and WiiU. Capcom might have thought that the Western audience have probably ditched out the their old PSP in favor of the newer 3DS and WiiU already.

What it's about?
The player takes the role of a Hunter, slaying or trapping large monsters across various landscapes as part of quests given to them by the locals. As part of its core gameplay loop, players use loot gained from slaying monsters, gathering resources, and quest rewards to craft improved weapons, armor, and other items that allows them to face more powerful monsters. While initially single-player games, more recent titles have up to four-player cooperative play, with all Hunters working together to take down monsters.

Popularity in Japan:
Insanely popular. This franchise accounts to the majority PSP sales in Japan.

Why I think it needs to be translated? There's already a partial fan-translated release of it in the wilds. You can play through it but the tutorials and some NPC dialog are lacking. I'd assume it is at least 60-70% done before the main translator just burned out and decided it drop the project out of the blue. You can learn more about it by playing with the words, "Monster Hunter Portable 3rd gbatemp" in Google. I would love to get into this franchise but I don't have the time and resources. Though when I can, this is probably what I would play. For those dirt poor people like me, this is the best "entry point" we could get, this is like the pauper version of Monster Hunter World. It's a shame we didn't get a western release.

What I can do to help? I got nothing but gratitude. I'll forever be thankful.

Why I think it needs to be translated?
I'm not sure if althi is going to remake this for westerns players, but even if they didn't, I feel like this needs to be translated.
What I can do to help:
Check for misspelling of words while playing the game.
Try the English patch every time it updates in the ppsspps emulator.
