I would technically just need wiiflow on the wii u then i can Connect my usb to the wii u amd it could read my hdd right?

Mmm well, Wii U is special in the HDD areas, because the USB ports on it output less power than those on the Wii, you would need a Y cable or external power for it to work, but aside from that i think it would be good like that. I strongly recommend running the Wiiflow app from SD Card though, as its more stable.
