This topic shows a guide on how to change the system menu region for your Wii. For example, 4.1J (NTSC-J or Japan) changed to 4.1U (American or NTSC-U) or 4.1E (Europe or PAL), or vice versa. You must have a American, Japanese or European Wii that have a LU64 and above serial number. To look to your Wii serial number is found on the below side on your Wii if it is verticial, left or right side if it is horizontal. If you have a Wii that has serial number below than LU64, click here.

Disclaimer: AnyRegionChanger, Wii Region Changer and Firmware Downgrader has no warranty at all. Changing the region may be dangerous, so it will brick your Wii (ex. unplugging the Wii, console region not the same as system menu region). So you use it at your own risk.

Here are the steps:

Getting started:[*] Click here to download [*]Click 'Save', when prompting to begin the download, to your Desktop.[*]Extract the contents by using a program that use .ZIP.[*]Click the extracted folder on your Desktop (WiiRegionModLU64+ folder)[*]Insert your SD card on your computer.[*]In your SD card directory, create the 'apps' folder on your SD card (without quotes) if you don't have one.[*]Copy everything that's included in the WiiRegionModLU64+ folder (excpet the wad folder) to the apps folder on your SD card.[*]Copy the 'wad' folder (without quotes) to the root of your SD card.[*]Take out your SD card on your computer then put it on your Wii.On your Wii:[*]Turn on your Wii and use your Wii Remote (a.k.a Wiimote).[*]On the Wii Menu (system menu), navigate to The Homebrew Channel.[*]To avoid an '-1017; error, while you're in The Homebrew Channel, go to WAD Manager.[*]In WAD Manger, install IOS-36-64-v1042.wad first, then IOS-16-64-v257.wad and finally the cIOSfix.wad. After that, press the HOME button to return to The Homebrew Channel.[*]It reboots to the system menu. On the Wii Menu (system menu), navigate to The Homebrew Channel.[*]While you're in The Homebrew Channel, go to Firmware Downgrader.[*]In Firmware Downgrader, select the system menu version you want to choose (ex. North American Wii will select 4.0J (Japanese firmware) or 4.0E (European firmware), not 4.0U (NTSC-U or American firmware) (3.4 and above only,) and press the A button to countiue.

[*]Wait until it finishes downloading and installing the system menu. Press the A button to change the console area. If you got an error (such as error '-102'), then press the A button to continue. After that, press the HOME button to return to The Homebrew Channel.[*]While you're in The Homebrew Channel, go to AnyRegionChanger.[*]Now select console region to change the country (must be USA, Europe or Japan) matching your system menu region if you got an error in Firmware Downgrader.[*](Optional)Changing the game region allows you to launch USA game discs and channels (including Virtual Console and WiiWare) if you set to USA in AnyRegionChanger, and it won't brick your Wii. Otherwise leave it.[*]While you're in AnyRegionChanger, navigate to 'Exit to The Homebrew Channel' (without quotes) to return to The Homebrew Channel. [*]Go to Wii Region Changer (application made by Waninkoko).[*]Press the A button first, then change using the left or right directional pad (a.k.a Control Pad) to your system menu region (Europe, North America or Japan) (for example, 4.0J (Japanese system menu region) = Japan). Then press the A button to continue. Now it restarts the Wii.[*](Optional) If you want to change your Wii Shop Channel country code (ex. from American Wii Shopping Channel to Japanese Wii Shopping Channel), you'll have to remove your Wii Shop Account in Wii Shopping Channel. Before removing your Wii Shop Account, be sure to check and enter your serial number on your Wii, found below of your console (without vertical stand). Now go to The Homebrew Channel while in Wii Menu. In The Homebrew Channel, go to WAD Manger to install IOS-36-64-v1042.wad first, then IOS-16-64-v257.wad and finally the cIOSfix.wad (this will avoid the '-1017' error. In WAD Manger, install IOS-36-64-v1042.wad first, then IOS-16-64-v257.wad and finally the cIOSfix.wad. After that, press the HOME button to return to The Homebrew Channel.

This should be changed to using the proper steps with the Trucha Bug Restorer to get the trucha bug back in IOS36 and then using IOS36 to install cIOS rev14.

I don't think cIOSfix.wad should work on boot2v4 Wii's as it is a really old cIOS AFAIK. LU64fix.wad would be the EARLIEST cIOS that's supposed to work with boot2v4 Wii's and that I believe is just cIOS rev11 in wad form.

Once you get the trucha bug back in IOS36, you shouldn't need to install a direct wad of a cIOS at all and can just use the rev14 installer, as it allows you to choose what IOS to use to install it.

Edit: Also technically including those IOS wad files in your download package isn't allowed here at all anyways and having just the trucha bug restorer and the rev14 installer in it would be legal.

I did the simplistic mod by xzxero here and continued in this guide from step 7.(means I did not install the IOS stuff mentioned here), works like a charm anyway...

EDIT: Technically, this wads do what TBR is supposed to do?

In my efforts to understand everything before I attempt potentially dangerous procedures, I am hoping someone can clarify what Wii Region Changer does that Firmware Downgrader or AnyRegion Changer does not.

As I understand it, the console region can be changed in Step 8 using Firmware Downgrader. If this fails, then the console region can be changed in Step 10 using AnyRegion Changer. Why then is it necessary to change the console region in Steps 13 & 14 using Wii Region Changer?

Thanks to antonkan for a very helpful guide!

No the wad's used in this guide were what was used a pretty long time ago before 4.0 even came out at all. What the TBR restorer does involves downgrading IOS15 in a certain way that still works on LU64+ Wii's and not actually installing an old version like this does (which probably wouldn't even be allowed to install at all on new systems/4.0+ systems.) cios_fix.wad is like a pre rev7 cIOS or something in wad form.
