I am trying to play Super Mario Galaxy 2, and it looks like, well, shit on my Sony 1080p TV. Is there a fix for this? thanks

Are you using the VAGA / SCART cable that came with the console or a composite cable. With a composite cable you can change from 480i to 480p.

Aside from that, the max you can do is finding a HDMI adapter and use an mCable, though your mileage may vary depending on the image you're outputting.

Wii games don't look great on Wii u, only way to make them look good is to use Dolphin and emulate them.
so if I have a gaming pc with a intel i7-6700hq and a gtx 1070, will games run good? also, how do I get the wii mote pointer to work? you kinda need that for Galaxy

Wii U uses HDMI which already is a the better option. You can try an mCable if you are up to the investment.
well yeah I do have the HDMI cable and all for the wiiu its just that Wii games look like trash, is there a upscale hack or anything?

There's an internal HDMI mod for the original Wii, that probably gets released this year. That will likely give the best results, but require some soldering skills, and cost $100 or more.

Setting your TV's aspect ratio to 4:3 will fix Wii games so they aren't stretched, but doesn't help dull, washed out colors the Wii U outputs for Wii and VC games.

Wii U already upscales Wii games. Doesn't re-render them though. That would be hard to implement and probably would require greater access to the console firmware.

The only way that would work to render games at a higher resolution on the Wii U would be for someone to make Wii games run in Wii U mode via a Nintendon't like app. This would allow access to the full power of the Wii U's GPU which shou
d be powerful enough to run most games at 720p or higher.

I think the sharper image of the Wii U displays the jaggies even more prominently than on the original Wii with composite cables. It doesn't upsample anything... these games could benefit from HD remakes in the future (which isnt going to happen on the Wii U).

Personally I think the original Wii games (and also Gamecube) still look great given the age of them.

Either use Dolphin, mess with your TV settings or play everything on the Wii U Gamepad. Othet than that, there isn't much you can do, unfortunately.

You mean component. Composite is what comes with the Wii.
Also, this is the Wii U section.

It doesn't take much to run Dolphin. With those specs you could probably even run GC/Wii games in 4K if you had a 4K monitor.
I've seen people mod the original sensor bar with a USB plug, but since you can get USB sensor bars and even wireless ones for cheap there's not much point. I would suggest a USB one though because the battery powered ones drain quickly and if you forget to turn it off once then the batteries are dead the next day.

Some people complain the Wii U's upscaler is bad, you could try setting the Wii U to 480p and letting the TV do the upscaling which might look slightly better. But in the end it's still a 480i/480p image being upscaled to 1080p, it's obviously not going to look anywhere near as good as a native 1080p image. Don't expect any better image quality than what you would get out of a Wii with component cables.

Wii games on wiiu look ten times better than wii with stock cables
I wouldn't go that far being honest. Having owned a Wii and a Wii u and trying all combinations of cables, IMHO the Wii U upscaling is woeful. A tv with a decent upscaler actually does a better job of softening the jaggies on the original Wii over composite than the Wii U does over HDMI. Particularly when running in 50hz (more lines).

Best way to experience Wii games in 2018 is emulation, period.

99% of wii games do not support "anamorphic" widescreen - in fact, not even close - maybe 15% but that's just a guesstimate
