As soon as we can restore a NAND in case of a brick/semibrick, I'm in.

Still debating wether I want to hack both of my 1.0.0 consoles or if I'm going to keep one unadulterated.

I would love it if someone could impliment netplay into emulators for multiplayer, that would definitely make me hack my second Switch.

I shall simply watch and wait until a stable CFW is out and well tested; and a stable fully functioning retroarch is up and running.

I really don't want to have to RCM any more than I absolutely have to, so stability is an absolute must, and there's no point until there's something worth doing it for.

My first time will be when:

a. emulators for >3.0
b. backups
c. pokemon editing
I guess you dont mean anything about maps...
Map editing in pokemon games is much harder now, since its no longer a tilesets map (like in gba)

Hacks are inseparable of CFW releases.
There will be no flashcard for the Switch.
First and second hacks has no meaning (second hacks are those not released publicly to allow future development of the CFW?)
First hacks is now a moment in the past.
There is no indication that the first CFW would be "hard" and a second CFW would be "easy".

No one can say - if they will use a modchip or not, when none of the features and callbacks, and compatibility guidelines have been released for any version.

What is this thread, and why was it made?

Most people "hacked" their devices, as soon as something came along that sounded exciting. The only limitations, really - so far, were the firmware versions they were on.

Everyday you see people in here struggling with the concept of delayed gratification - the only "separator" of the ones you used - I would believe in is "do you want to be early, or do you need simple?". edit: And even that doesn't count, because the Atmosphere release will be targeted to people that "need simple" as well.

As soon as anything that could even be misconstrued for a "new public release" hits the scene, this forum is full of support requests. People don even wait long enough that you could tell them, that if they manage to compile a Linux build, they'd still be rocking "no sound", "no controller, "no touch", "random crashes" and "a messed up battery state".

Those are my impressions.

This thread is "How/When will you hack your switch for the first time??"

Hope that helps!
In the library with a rope - after winning my third game of clue?

All the choices are arbitrary, half of them will never happen, or happened in the past, and whatever people say that they will do now - they will reevaluate, when stuff gets released and they have more information. And see their friends do something, they want to do as well...

Here is the most simple reaction to the poll I can give you.

- First wave o' hacks already happened - destinction was - people who were on lower firmwares - used it. No negatives.
- Second wave o' hacks is expected to be released as an aid to launch CFW via software, or are the hardware assisted hacks? Not sure, in any case - they are not separable from CFW
- There never will be a flashcard
- None of the people in here know what the exact benefits of a modchip will be.
- As far as we can tell, there are no "hard" and "easy" CFWs in development. And the first release is actually targeted at the "I need easy" crowd.

So what is this poll?

I'd really like to understand it. Is it people basing decision making on majority votes - by people that have obviously hardly any clue either? Is it people taking the 3DS blueprint and trying to lay it over the switch development cycle - when it simply doesn't fit? Why?

Is this Nintendo in an effort to prime people to wait for stuff that will never happen, or that will never happen "the way it did on the 3DS"? (I'm starting to wonder, because - there was a "wouldnt you first wait, how great Nintendos online service is, before hacking" thread in the recent past. Oh, and how great Nintendos online service turned out to be...) Is this people vowing to use abstract concepts, while having no ideas what they will entail, how long they'd have to wait, if and when or if they will happen at all...

Is this avid buyers from piracy sites, listing all paraphernalia categories of past generations asking people which ones to go for - this time around? Because then someone has to tell, them - that this time, its different. (Because Nintendo did their homework (Nvidia didnt).)

Here is one to puzzle you for another month and a half, untii the Atmosphere release gets closer.

The CFW - you don't "install" it on the Switch. It just lies on your SD card - and you load it via hacks. Mind blown?
Wait, it gets better! From what we currently know - it will never be possible to install a CFW on your Switch (without the equivalant of a mod chip). Wait - it still gets better. The first modchips out there most likely will not hold CFW either. They will be hardware "hackenablers".

Now - could I suggest - that you at least look at the concepts out there, before you make up milestones, that have nothing to do with ongoing Switch development? Kind of a "lessen the overall confusion" kind of request?

I guess I was unclear
When I was talking about first/second wave of hack, I was meaning exploit
like with the 3ds, 4.1-4.5 wasnt for everyone, but 9.0-9.2 was much more noob friendly
As for the CFW, the reason I would delay it before installing it on my system is very simple
Nintendo might come out with something. Maybe theyll explore this CFW, and then, when it became popular... BANG, they ban all users with the CFW...
Maybe I'm noob, maybe I'm paranoiac, but I need more feedback before installing this on my Switch
Hey, I paid this baby 400$, I wont brick it because I tryed installing Atmosphere and ended up doing it wrong... you know?

Easy... I'll hack my Switch when my warranty runs out and when the hacks become more mature and user-friendly. The people who will be on the bleeding edge of the hacks will be the ones with the most risk. I'm not saying people shouldn't try the initial wave of hacks, because their needs to be early adopters so the kinks can be ironed out.
