i found a functional, mod-chipped xbox at a local game store for the equivalent of 38 u.s dollars, do you think that's expensive?

so with a mod-chipped xbox, i can install the softmod to the xbox's internal HDD via a burned CD-R disc, which means that i don't need the exploit games & the modded memory card right?

thanks so much for letting me know!

You should grab a 4 pin molex splitter right away if you don't have one in order to do a swap. Alternatively, you can power a new hard drive with a PC tower (if you can get the Xbox right by it) or 3.5 external hard drive enclosure kit.

so the softmod cannot be installed to the xbox's internal HDD unless i connect said HDD to my PC's IDE port and unlocked the drive first, is this correct?

If it's chipped like you say it is, then you shouldn't need a locked drive. Chipped systems and BIOS flashed systems can run unlocked HDDs.

If chipped, you should be able to simply plug in another blank IDE hard drive or Sata hard drive and a converter and use HeXeN to set it up.

A console with the original BIOS can only use a locked HDD, alternative firmwares (flashed or replaced with the one on a chip) don't have that requirement, but nothing really requires an unlocked disk (ok, Windows, if you want to plug it into a PC to transfer files)

Hello.:)

There are many ways to get a HDD ready in the XBox (without PC).Recommended are:

- Rocky5´s XBox Softmodding Tool V.1.1.4 - very easy and self explaining (updated til 2018)
- Softmod Installer Deluxe V5.11 is an easy and self-explaning solution (updated til 2018)
- heXen Install Disc is for the advanced user (updated 2018)
- SlaYers Install disc (outdated but you can still use it)

If you want to use the content of the HDD whats inside the XBox (because of the Programms/Tools/Emulators etc. on it) you have to use the molex splitter cable and a tool called chimp on the XBox to clone the HDD via the XBox.A little tricky because there are many CHIMP versions around the net and not all are good in function or don´t work. And depending on which XBox Version you have (there are a lot of.)

If you have time, read a little bit of the history of the original XBox in the Internet. Many good sites are still uptodate and online.Thrust me the time is it worth.:)

Good luck and have fun.:)

It's a good price but do a check with the seller because sometimes modchipped xboxes are simply softmodded, without chip.

Good idea. Also ok is if he make an TSOP flash to the XBox.This means the Bios was flashed with an "modified" Bios. The effect is the same like a CHIP,the XBox can boot from any HDD and DVD and/or CD (if the XBox Drive supports it).If your seller is a "good" guy he tells you all that things (which XBox version, which DVD drive,Capacitor condition etc.).If he knows nothing about that,it´s ok.:)

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
