Hello.

I decided to setup my Wii U because I wanted to check what's on the USB lol.
Now I stumbled on a Switch homebrew video which sysDVR got my attention.

Is there something like that for Wii U?

Thanks.

There's Screen Streaming - WUPS: https://apps.fortheusers.org/wiiu/ScreenStreaming_WUPS
It's still an early proof of concept, so it might take some time (it's been stalled for some time). Requires Wii U Plugin system, which Aroma environment has.
Never heard of Aroma environment and didn't really follow the use of plugins.

The only thing I know is I load Haxchi holding B on the Wii U gamepad and it allows to run homebrew and games that are installed on the Wii U Menu.

So what do I need to do exactly?

Thanks.

Since you're on Haxchi, you'll need to uninstall it first and install Tiramisu, followed by Aroma atop of that (most of the work is already done while installing Tiramisu, you just need to copy some Aroma specific parts and launcher it via enviroment loader).

Here you can find more about Aroma: https://aroma.foryour.cafe/
And this is the official Tiramisu guide: https://wiiu.hacks.guide/#/tiramisu/sd-preparation

Whether it's worth switching to Tiramisu/Aroma from Haxchi, I'm not so sure since the plugin mentioned above is still in its early stages. However, future homebrew apps will mostly require Tiramisu/Aroma, so I guess it's definitely worth checking out if you can spare some time and effort.

One very good reason to switch is that the fix for https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2022-47949 is an Aroma plugin. This CVE is highly critical as it allows a hacker to completely take control over your Wii U by just you joining a online gaming session. PoC codes for such an Attacke are available and there are even videos on YouTube demonstrating this.

In other words: The only way to play Mario Kart 8 or Splattoon online without a high risk is using Aroma + a plugin by Pretendo (check their Discord).

Thanks. Do you really need to uninstall Haxchi in order to even install or use Tiramisu and Aroma? Or can I just keep Haxchi just in case?

You need to remove it in case it's coldbooted (CBHC). Else you can keep it but don't try to launch it while Tiramisu is running (homebrew devs kept it in the early days to be able to test their homebrews on Haxchi without uninstalling Tiramisu each time. So it is a tested but not recommended setup).

//EDIT: To launch Haxchi from such a setup hold R while booting the Wii U. This skips Tiramisu, so you're booting into stock Firmware. From there just launch Haxchi and to switch back to Tiramisu simply reboot.

Interesting. So, if I have Haxchi installed, I can install Tiramisu/Aroma as well? As long as I power cycle Wii U console in order to disable Haxchi? As far as I know, Haxchi needs to be run on each startup provided the Wii U console was completely powered down, right?

Good to know as the fix from big N might never be seen...
I think Nintendo will be a disgrace if they don't patch it ngl, they patched Mario Kart 7 and that probably has less people playing than the original Mario Kart 8 version.

It really is an insult if they don't patch it soon, I could honestly consider modding my Wii U just because of that, but Wii U home-brewing is a lot more complex than 3DS home-brewing, could possibly only patch vWii at the moment which is a pretty developed scene already
