I have Debian installed, I have a USB flash drive THATS BOOTABLE and Windows 10 on it.
I tried changing the boot settings, even after clicking on "USB Drive", it just boots to GRUB
I tried changing the BIOS settings (they were already configured to USB), it still just boots to GRUB
What the heck do I do? I asked everywhere and I still have no answers. I don't want to make a dual-boot. I want Debian gone (it's still installed) and Windows 10 on the PC.

GRUB is a bootloader. What exactly are you trying to do? because it seems you barely know what the words mean, let alone what to do.

I am trying to install Windows on a system with Debian.
I tried booting to my Windows 10 USB flash to install it, but I can't. GRUB always starts.

Yes, I am clueless about GRUB and Linux, that's exactly why I'm asking here. Is GRUB supposed to show a "USB Drive" option? Because it isn't. The only options are Debian, advanced options and inside that 2 more options, "Linux <version> with Debian" and "Linux <version> with Debian (recovery)".

Sorry, it's backwards. (Debian with Linux, not Linux with Debian)

Try to nuke your bootloader from Debian lol.

Joke aside, I think your USB drive was made incorrectly, because it SHOULD boot with the usb option. Have you tried different ports too?

I just tested the USB Drive on my Windows PC and it worked. It booted to it. Could it be a problem that I made it for UEFI?

I'm not sure but it could be it. Try with the legacy option.

Yes. If the PC with Debian on it doesn't support UEFI, it won't be able to boot the USB as it wouldn't detect any boot files on it.

Make sure the USB is configured to boot with MBR, then it should be detected properly and should boot to the Windows installer.

I thought it supported UEFI, but I'll reflash it just to be safe. Thanks for the help!

It is possible the PC supports UEFI, but you might have the BIOS set to boot using CSM/legacy mode. If that's the case, you should also check your BIOS to see if there's any CSM option, and if it's enabled, disable it for UEFI support.
I'll go check right now.

Well, 3 new discoveries:
In BIOS, it says "legacy boot order", not "boot order".
In boot settings in BIOS theres a thing checked "PXE internal NIC boot".
In device configuration in BIOS there's a thing checked "USB Legacy support".
I think I need to reflash this to MBR instead of UEFI.

PXE is just network booting, nothing important.

If you're seeing legacy options like that, your BIOS should support UEFI which is probably the more preferred boot method (as it's much faster than old MBR). Check for legacy mode or CSM, use that instead so you don't have to reformat the USB

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
