Basically, I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to build a SMS (texting) app

basically, you need to have a cell phone (or at least access to one) and a PC.

Couldn't this be achieved with Skype? I know that the PC/Mac version of Skype has texting (Not free), but I'm not too sure with the PSP version.

Could you also explain how the SMS would work? I'm a little interested in this, even though it doesn't seem to be too useful.

It would allow you to text cell phones not just someone else running the app. I am not talking about just IM chat, but true SMS texting

That's not what I meant. Skype can actually send SMS to cell phones. I'm just unsure if Skype for the PSP can do this.

it's easy if you have a serial lead, not so sure about using usb though.

Could be possible. There's a locally made app (At least I think it's locally made) called Chikka which allows SMSing from your PC to a cellphone.

for the most part, you can just use MSN and Yahoo to SMS to cell phones (send and receive)
