It has been reported (according to "a source with knowledge of the company's decision") that Microsoft will discontinue its use of Microsoft Points, its "currency" for Xbox Live, Zune, and in game purchases on the Windows Phone.
While there is nothing official to confirm this story (And Microsoft has refused to comment), it certainly makes a lot of sense. After all, it's a lot easier to just purchase your games/dlc/what-have-you directly than to contend with a middle man currency.
This news is more than welcome. The impact won't be huge or anything, but it will certainly be more convenient. So yeah, hooray for minor victories, I guess.
Source: Inside Mobile AppsMicrosoft’s proprietary virtual currency system, Microsoft Points, will be phased out by the end of the year, according to a source with knowledge of the company’s decision. The change will affect developers for Windows Phone, the Zune marketplace and Xbox Live.
By the end of 2012, all transactions will be based on the region set on the purchasing account and real money will be used to purchase all Windows Phone content. The move puts the Windows Phone Marketplace in line with the purchasing practices used in the App Store and the Android Market.
