Netflix launches a game controller app on iOS

Netflix is moving ahead with its gaming ambitions and its latest move is a new app to control games. Simply named the Netflix Game Controller app, it was released on the App Store for iPhone and iPad with the following description:

Coming soon to Netflix. Play games on your TV with the Netflix Game Controller. This Game Controller app pairs with your TV and allows you to play games on Netflix using your phone or mobile device.

While the app is available to download, additional details such as supported games and whether an Android version will be available are lacking. When asked about these questions, a Netflix spokesperson told Engadget that it isn't making comments at this time.

Gotta give you that point. It isn't Nintendo Switch Pro controller quality, but better build then Xbox or Playstation
The Switch Pro is a really good and sturdy controller, but there's one thing I'm not a fan of: It has digital triggers.

Earlier today I was playing GTA V on PS3 (it's still fun) and with analog triggers the character didn't automatically shot although if it were digital? Haha, yeah.

I agree, that thing lasts for ages. (It uses a 2DS battery) and is basically a brick.

There's a bunch of interactive content of the "choose your own adventure" variety on Netflix and some of it is pretty good. And there's a lot of games these days that are "interactive dramas" and would work fine on streaming. They could have a library of interactive content right out the gate. And a controller would be better than the garden variety TV remote most people have for these kind of boxes (those that watch Netflix on TV anyway).

A brick that even insects have made it into a country of their own with this one:

Now for real, that's seriously disgusting. I don't remember any other controller being this filthy.

Consoles? Oh yeah, seen some on YT with cockroaches and stuff. They get in there and sometimes cause it to malfunction (I've not seen a cockroach for a few years now).

of course it's on iphone. lol.

in all seriousness, the only time I heard of playing a game on netflix was that one Minecraft story mode choose your own adventure thing, which was basically a heavily watered down telltale game.

Oh boy, just phone and TV eh? So it will be another streaming app

How do these suits in silicon valley still think game streaming is a good idea after all the failures
Because corporations believe in infinite and constant upward growth, so they are willing to go with any idea, even if it's a failure. Why? Netflix revolutionalized movie streaming, so they DEFINITELY can do the same for gaming, that's the logic.

No. Not a streaming app. How did you arrive at that idea?
It's a phone app to play games with your phone as a controller, and I think it's pretty obvious coming from Netflix that the next step will be game streaming

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
