"Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition", a new NES Remix-like game, launching July 18th

After rumour got out about an upcoming NES Edition release for the famed Nintendo World Championships, Nintendo has officially unveiled the new game, titled "Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition".

The title seems to be similar in gameplay and focus (kind of a successor even) to what the NES Remix titles were in the Wii U, with timed challenges being available from a wide variety of NES titles, like the original The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 & 3, Ice Climbers, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Excitebike and much more, with up to 13 NES games to choose from.

Completed challenges and their times can be shared online to compete for the top spot, a "Speedrun Mode" is included to play for the best possible times, and a "Party Mode" that allows for up to 8 players locally to play at the same time and compete for the best times.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will be available on July 18th, 2024, on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch.
A Deluxe set for the game will also be available, including a golden replica cartridge, 13 art cards for the NES games, 5 pins and the physical game cart for the Nintendo Switch.

It's the 'Switch Edition'... 'NES Edition' implies it's an NES release.
Nor is it "Nintendo World Championships", as that implies competing for prizes as in the case of anything else officially released baring the NWC title.
Nintendo click-bait.

No, it is because people realized it is just NES Remix without the Remix part and less games.

This is not even worth to be its own release, it should be one of these games included with the NSO subscription.
no, people on here shit on everything coming from nintendo

What was wrong with the name NES Remix? I don't see why they couldn't just release it as part of that series.
Anyways, I played the shit out of NES Remix 1 & 2 so this should be fun too. Has a lot of repeat games though, which is a shame. Was hoping for a SNES Remix sometime since that is one of my favorite platforms but it seems like they don't intend to continue the Remix series.

Looks like a neat take on NES Remix, but without the remix challenges which is a shame. Multiplayer mode looks fun, but I want to know who they hired for their UI design. It looks cluttered as all hell.

They probably hired a mobile game UI designer, F2P mobile games are always cluttered with a dozen flashing icons and text designed to catch your eyes.

IIRC, this doesn't really have anything to do with the Nintendo World Championships. Basically, it's NES games with challenges, like NES Remix and some "special" games that already exist on NSO. To call it after the championships is a bit misleading.

Only 13 games? Man, that's a bummer. NES remix on the Wii U and 3DS had way more games than that. Oh well. At least its something new.
I'm sure there's more than 13 ready and waiting, but you'll have to pay for them once the cash flow from the initial launch slows down.

We recently got an official Twitter post that yes there is gonna be an official hardware successor for the Switch and there are several game developers that without saying their names confirmed they are making games for that next console in a pool a few months ago.

Also it is speculated that Legend Arceus 2 aka Pokemon Legends Z or whatever is gonna be for the Switch 2.

The post you were replying to was already proven as being untrue. They did not have way more games.
My post was a joking commentary on business practices of major developers. The post I was replying to was nearly irrelevant. Your posting habits really seem to point more towards quantity vs quality.

Uh huh. Sure. If it was nearly irrelevant why did you even bother quoting it instead of just making your comment without the quote? Sorry my posting habits bother you so much. Try not to cry about it much more, and feel free to use the ignore feature. I simply pointed out that what you quoted was already shown to be very inaccurate. Not sure why that bothered you so much. Perhaps think about the quality of your own posts, before posting about the quality of others. Had you not quoted what you seem to think was nearly irrelevant in the first place, no one would have had to point out it's inaccuracies. Pretty simply concept, Chumbly. But shrug.

Y'know I've never actually played NES Remix, probably should, I've heard good things about it. Regardless it's neat to see the Nintendo World Championships branding come back I guess.

I used to drink alcohol fairly often. Never to the point of it being a problem, but like 2-3 beers with dinner each night, or a few cocktails or glasses of Scotch or something. Started smoking/vaping weed a lot a few years back which killed 90% of my interest in booze. Now I stopped smoking/vaping weed as much and just deal with life the boring way most of the time

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found

@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector.
